According to Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) there are over 600 overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) in Qatar who are loosing their jobs due to a prevailing diplomatic crisis with its brother Arab countries and the numbers are expected to rise in the coming days.
Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III said the rising number of displacements among OFWs in Qatar is causing Philippine government to be more concerned about them.
Bello said that the prevailing diplomatic crisis had caused closures of companies and retrenchment of hundreds of Filipino workers in Qatar.
However, Bello said, the ongoing displacement has not reach the extent of suspending deployment of OFWs to Qatar.
