Reports saying that the Embassy officials in Saudi Arabia have been acting slow with regards to helping stranded and runaway OFWs are not entirely correct according to Philippine Consul General Iric Arribas.
He also said that the Philippine Embassy in Riyadh and the philippine Consulate in Jeddah are both providing the OFWs all the help they need which includes repatriation as well.
700 OFWs have been in jails in Saudi Arabia for various charges because there are no assistance coming from the Embassy officials, according to the reports from various OFW advocates.
Arribas also denied the remarks that the Philippine Overseas Labor Office (POLO) has been trying to shrug off the real situation of the OFWs by not making President Duterte totally aware of it by providing the president factual information. Arribas said that there is no such thing, citing that they have repatriated around 3,000 OFWs last year as a proof that they are extending all forms of help for the OFWs.
Known to have high concern about OFWs, President Duterte vows to pull out some OFWs on death row and god-willing, he might bring some of them home with him on his return to the Philippines.
President Duterte also said in a statement that the OFWs are his inspiration to push through on war on drugs and he does not want this illegal substance ruin the lives of the children of the OFWs who have done enough sacrifices to give them a better future.
