Starting June, Filipinos May Enter Taiwan Visa-Free

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) announced that Filipinos will be granted visa-free access to Taiwan starting on June 1, 2017. The visa exemption for Filipinos has a duration of up to 30 days, which will be implemented on a trial basis for a period of one year, from June 1, 2017 to July 31, 2018, the ministry said. The government also extended the 30-day visa exemption for Thai and Brunei nationals to one year. Taiwan is gradually removing barriers and obstacles regarding visa procedures including extending visa-free privileges for these countries.The visa application time is also hastened, the ministry said. Since Taiwan offered visa-free entry to the neighboring countries in Southeast Asia, they have seen significant growth in the number of visitors coming to their country. In January, according to the government data, the number of South and Southeast Asian visitors in Taiwan reached 68,000, marking an increase of 42.8 % -- the biggest growth in the period of four years. Police figures show that legitimate police operations have led to over 2,600 deaths of individuals involved in drugs since the war on drugs began.
