Cases of kidney failures in the Philippines are rising and patients suffering from the disease need to undergo dialysis treatment. The problem is, the treatments cost a lot. Sadly, not every Filipino could afford it especially those who live in rural areas and those who belong to the urban poor.
A bill requiring all government hospitals to provide free dialysis treatment to underprivileged and poor patients has been proposed in the senate by Senator Sonny Angara.
The Senator noted that poor patients suffering from kidney ailment who are in the provinces could not afford the expenses of traveling all the way to the cities to seek dialysis treatment and to pay for the treatment itself.
He also cited that some people ,due to their poverty, are dying without even being given the chance to undergo a dialysis treatment because they could not afford to pay for it.
DOH figures does not include all of those who are suffering from kidney failures. It only include those who were not able to undergo dialysis due to lack of financial ability and the inaccessible proximity of available dialysis centers in rural areas.
If this proposal would materialize sooner, a new ray of hope would shine on the faces of the poor Filipinos. They could have the gift of a longer life, enough for them to enjoy the company of their loved ones a few days more.
