POEA warns public vs illegal recruiters in travel and tours agency
The Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA), warns the public against illegal recruitment modus posing as travel and tours agency.
In the Facebook Page of POEA chief Hans Leo Cacdac, there's a post that warns the public against four allegedly illegal recruitment agency that already victimized 200 people.
It stated that public should be wary of the following illegal recruiters claimed to deploy overseas Filipino workers (OFW) to Australia and New Zealand to work as butchers, nurses for Germany and skilled workers like butchers, welders, teachers, caregivers, hotel workers for Japan.

This is the following:
1. Bantayog Travel and Tours, owned by Osmando ‘Ozhie’ N. Habilag with office address at 2/F Unit CCL Building, Biwas, Tanza Cavite.
2. PADS Travel and Tours, owned by Alejandro Navarro, allegedly cousin of Osmando Hablag with the office address at 164 Mother Ignacia Avenue, Quezon City.
3. Alex Ramos/Alex Carlos of PADS Travel and Tours.
4. Veraflor de los Reyes, agent/recruiter of Bantayog Travel and Tours and owners of Visa Assist Fortune Diamond Rays, a travel consultancy in Davao.
The post also said that those illegal recruiters lured those who plan to work abroad from Pangasinan, Tarlac, Davao City, Davao del Norte, Cebu, Cavite, Compostela Valley, Iloilo, Misamis Oriental, Leyte, and Caloocan City.
It said, that these illegal recruiters are asking to P70,000 - P90, 000 for placement fees, reservation fees, processing fees, and medical/training expenses.
Accordingly, they use Facebook and "orientation seminars" in different places and claiming that the POEA and the above mentioned countries have a bilateral agreement.
They also rushed their victims for the "slot" and for the Visa.
Department of Justice (DOJ) will file a case against this four illegal recruiter.

POEA also reminds the public of the following: 1. Travel Agencies, office or consultancy are not allowed to recruit. 2. Do not be lured by immediate deployment offered by the recruiter. Always check if the recruitment agency is license. 3. Don't give placement fees or other amounts to unlicensed recruiter.
Cacdac urges the public to report whatever incidents they know involving illegal recruitment to the following offices, POEA, DOLE, OWWA, PNP, NBI, and DOJ. They may also call POEA hotlines - 7221144, 7221155. On the other news about illegal recruitment

BPI already clarified that not all and only five percent of its clients need to update their account information by September 30. According to Randy Maranan, Chief Customer Experience Officer of BPI, that the requirement only applies to those who have received official communication from BPI.
The bank said, 95 percent of its client can update their customer information sheet (CIS) anytime with no deadline.
President Rudy Duterte personally welcomed the 128 stranded OFWs who arrived from Saudi Arabia, most of them lost their jobs because of the slowing construction business in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia caused by the tremendous drop of oil prices in the global market.

Pres. Duterte made several promises to the OFWs aside from giving them cash money worth P5,000 each on the spot at the airport on top of the P26,000 previously promised by OWWA and DOLE. The following are some of the promises by Pres Duterte to stranded OFWs and all OFWs, in general 1. OFWs can borrow money from the government to put up a business. 2. Stranded OFWs can visit Malacanang and he will help in times of need.

POSSIBLE OPENING OF MOTHBALLED BATAAN NUCLEAR POWER PLANT UNDER DUTERTE ADMINISTRATION
The Bataan Nuclear Power Plant (BNPP) is the only existing nuclear power plant in the country built during the Marcos era in 1976 with the help of Westinghouse Company.The project was completed in 1985.The main reason is to lessen the power supply crisis and to minimize the import of petroleum from other countries,making the country self sufficient in terms of energy by ensuring cheap and clean supply of electricity with minimal effect on the environment compared to expensive fossil fuel ran facility .This project spent more than $2Billion but has never been used.The power plant is fully operational but the contract was suspended May of 1996 in the wake of the Chernobyl Disaster.
It has been placed under the preservation mode and the National Power Corporation (NAPOCOR) has been taking good care and maintenance of the facility eversince.In 2011,NAPOCOR decided to open it for the public who wants to see it. There was a plan of re-opening it in the same year but the Fukushima nuclear incident renewed concerns about the power plant's safety. The BNPP is said to be capable of producing 620 Megawatts of electricity that can supply 1/10th power requirement of Luzon.The nuclear power plant uses uranium ore pellets that produces 9 grams of oil and 3 tons of coal that can supply a household that consumes 350kw/h for 9 consecutive months.The use of the powerplant has less carbon emission making it environment and ozone friendly.

Energy Secretary Alfonso Cusi said that reviving the plant that has never been used for decades will require a $1Billion investment. The re-opening of NBPP is one of the options for the Philippines to meet its growing power needs that the demand is said to be expected to rise by an average of 5% until 2030,according to Cusi. "We have to weigh all our options, with emphasis not just on meeting capacity requirements, but sustainability and environmental obligations as well," Cusi said.
Cusi will revive a task force created by the government in 2007 to study nuclear power as an alternative to imported fuel oil and coal,comprising half of the country's energy mix.The country will be joining more than 2 dozen other countries looking to add nuclear power to their grid including Asian neighbors like Indonesia,Vietnam,Malaysia and Thailand.
Cusi is not committing any timetable for the study but the protests against the project is expected to reignite.

In making the power plant operational,the very first thing to consider is the safety. But according to the management of the BNPP,the facility is very much ready to operate .They said that the powerplant is designed to be safe anticipating every leakage possibilities and made sure that no radioactive materials will leak in case of disasters.
The facility was declared unsafe because it is sitting near Mt.Pinatubo and in a major fault line.However,the Pinatubo eruption in 1991 had no effect on the BNPP.
