PINAY DH IN KUWAIT SENTENCED TO 10 YEARS IN JAIL FOR JOINING ISIS

Kuwait court sentenced a Filipino woman to 10 years in jail on Monday, after convicting her of joining the Islamic State jihadist group and plotting attacks. She was arrested in August two months after arriving in Kuwait to work as a domestic helper. The ruling, which is not final, also calls for deportation of the 32-year old Livani Azvilo Pescaeda after her jail term is served. According to the Ministry of Interior of the state of Kuwait, the woman had confessed that she is a member of the Islamic state group and her involvement in plotting terrorist attack in the area. During the interrogation, she said that her husband is an active Daesh (ISIS) fighter in Libya. Her Somali husband asked her to come to Kuwait from the Philippines as a domestic helper. She awaits for the explosive devices to conduct a suicide bombing attack in Kuwait. She said , her husband told her that she would go to heaven if the suicide bombing will be carried out successfully. This allegedly ISIS-affiliated group has conducted a string of bombings as well as kidnappings for ransom terrorizing locals, foreign tourists and Christian missionaries in the Philippines. Kuwait police has arrested an Egyptian driver suspected of being a member of the IS, after he rammed a garbage truck into a pick-up carrying five Americans. It happened in October. Authorities in July said they had dismantled three IS cells plotting attacks, including a suicide bombing against a Shiite mosque and against an interior ministry target. An IS-linked suicide bomber killed 26 worshippers when he blew himself up in a Shiite Mosque in June of last year, considered to be one of the worst terror attack in the Gulf region. ©2016 THOUGHTSKOTO

OFW BANK IN RIYADH TO OPEN ON SEPTEMBER 2017

Good news to all OFWs in Saudi Arabia! The Postal Bank that will soon turn to be OFW Bank will open a branch in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The LandBank, a state-run bank in the Philippines, will acquire the Postal Bank, which would be 30% owned by the OFWs and has an authorized capital of P3 billion, according to Finance Secretary Carlos G. Dominguez III. LandBank President Alex Buenaventura said that there are 800,000 OFWs, 40% of which are residing in Riyadh and in that consideration , they will open a branch of the OFW Bank in the area. The Riyadh branch will initially offer financial education and investment counseling services to OFWs, according to Dominguez. The creation of the Bank for the OFWs is one of the promises of President Rodrigo Duterte to the OFWs and their families that has been fulfilled. Another proof of the sincerity and concern of the new President towards the "modern heroes". Dominguez said that the acquisition of the Postal Bank will be completed at the 3rd Quarter of 2017 and that the LandBank has sufficient resources to make it happen. LandBank will seek clearances from the Governance Commission for Government Owned and Controlled Corporations (GCG) and the Philippine Competition Commission (PCC) for the acquisition process to complete. The government bank also needs approval from the Monetary Board, Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) for the OFW bank to be operational by Sept. 1, 2017. PAST PRESIDENTS SAY IT CAN'T BE DONE, DUTERTE MADE IT POSSIBLE

President Rodrigo Duterte may be considered as the most loved president of the Philippines. In spite of the negative media write-ups and reports, foreign and local alike, the Filipino people who voted for him are ready to defend him. Why? Because for a very long time, the common Filipino did not even see a glimpse of hope from the past presidents especially the OFWs. Everything changed when "Tatay Digong" came. He walk the talk and get things done. And this is why President Duterte is still popular. Free hospitals. Free education. Airport at Clark. NAIA is much much much better. And now he brings together all the big bosses of various private companies to be able to contribute to nation building in a big way. I know he's not perfect. Far from it. But this is the first time in my entire life that I actually don't mind seeing that income tax line on my payslip. He will continue to curse and fail at several things. But he will also continue to decide and act swiftly. Top business tycoons like Manny V. Pangilinan, Ramon Ang, and Lucio Tan declare their support for the Duterte administration's bid to unleash the economic potential of violence-stricken Sulu. During the "Negosyo Para Sa Kapayapaan sa Sulu: Christmas Town Hall with the President", prominent businessmen gathered to pledge support to President Rodrigo Duterte to develop war torn Sulu and create businesses that can benefit Sulu folks. Among the businessmen were SM's Tessie Sy-Coson, Lucio Tan and son Michael Tan, manny V. Pangilinan, Ramon Ang, Gawad Kalinga founder Tony Meloto, local government executives and Secretaries of the Duterte cabinet. The Guest Speaker for the event is President Rodrigo Duterte himself. According to agriculture Secretary Manny Piñol, the president kickstarted the Save Sulu Project by ordering him to visit Sulu and see what could be done for the farmers and fisherfolks in the area. Piñol got in touch with Trade secretary Ramon Lopez and Presidential adviser on Entrepreneurship Joey Concepcion who got the idea of promoting entrepreneurship, linking farmers and fishermen of Sulu to big businesses. The effort spearheaded more business groups to pledge support in different ways. The pledges made are as follows: Aside from the abovementioned commitments, trade chief Lopez said the government wants to partner with top retailers to help Sulu farmers and fishermen earn more. His department has asked big companies like SM, Robinsons, Adobo Dragon Group, Rustan's Group, and Puregold "to allocate a specific space in their malls for free" to make products of small Sulu agri-entrepreneurs, farmers, and fishermen accessible to more buyers, said Lopez. All of these efforts for the development of Sulu and the peace campaign of the president will surely mean serious progress. If all of these are unfolding before the Filipino people in President Duterte's term barely a year since he stepped up, a question must be ringing in everyone's mind: If all these things can be done, why is it only happening now? What are the past Presidents been doing in their entire term? Everyone has a right to believe anything they want to believe but President Rodrigo Duterte's accomplishments for the benefit of common filipinos with the help of the elite class will echo the positive effects of his leadership.
