In the Philippines, being a country known for being religious in culture and traditions, holy week is a good time for self reflection. For others ,they also take advantage of the holidays to hang out with family , go to the provinces and visit their relatives and to enjoy the summer as well. Of course their house are often left for days or even weeks. That makes the home vulnerable to outside threats like burglars and thieves, which also take advantage of the holidays to do their evil plans.
Just recently, a member of "akyat-bahay" gang who are notorious in raiding houses, shops and almost anything where they can get valuable stuffs, was caught after she accidentally fell from the ceiling. The authorities believe that she was not alone and she works with other juveniles. The original target was the jewelery store above the tattoo shop where she was caught. They used the ceiling as the access but unfortunately, the girl hit the weak part of the ceiling that made her fall on the tattoo shop below and was never able to get up until the shop owner opened it the next day and found the girl lying on the floor. The shop owner said that he closed the shop before he left the other day and was surprised seeing the locks broken and the door was already open and to his surprise, he found a girl lying on the floor who appeared to be severely hurt. Concerned about what had happened to the stranger, he asked her what was wrong, but when he look around his shop, suspected that the girl was possibly a thief, he immediately called the police.

According to the mother of the suspect, the girl has eluded home a month ago and possibly had her way with the gang of juveniles believed to be "akyat-bahay gang" members. The mom of the 17-year old girl says that the girl has a mobile phone but it was already missing when they found her.
Norman Saliot, the owner of the tattoo shop has decided to file charges against the juvenile saying that it will be much safer for her to be in the custody of the authorities rather than hanging around with the burglars doing illegal things. The mother also agreed.
The Philippine National Police has issued a warning to the families who are going to leave their houses for an out-of-town getaway, to make their houses safe from the thieves lurking around during the holidays.
The PNP advised those who are going for a holiday getaway to make sure that somebody is in the house, shop or establishment before leaving, or in cases where nobody will be there to guard the premises, make sure that the doors and windows are securely locked. They also advised people to make sure to unplug all electrical devices and appliances to prevent any trouble or fire that can be caused by overheated electrical appliances.
