"When implemented, MNP can help promote consumer welfare by fostering the freedom to choose and to respond to quality, price and other relevant considerations without the consumers having to change their mobile numbers whenever they change mobile service providers or subscription plans," pahayag ng Globe Telecom.

"This is the best time to be with Globe. There are so many reasons for our customers to stay and excited for those who will join us in the Globe family," ang naging pahayag ni Globe Chief Commercial Officer Issa Guevarra-Cabreira.

"MNP is a game-changer, and Smart is best-positioned to champion this initiative and support the government's call for world-class services for all Filipinos," pahayag ni Alfredo Panlilio, PLDT Inc. at Smart Communications President and CEO.

  • Switching providers (porting out and porting in) will be free for users
  • It will only take 48 hours to transfer telcos with about 4 hours downtime before the transfer takes effect
  • Service is available for both prepaid and postpaid subscribers provided that the lock-in period for postpaid users has expired and that all liabilities are settled
  • There is no limit to switching back and forth to and from any telco providers
  • After completing a telco switch, there will be a 60-day period before a subscriber can request another transfer
  • By default, consumers won't be able to tell what telco provider the other party is using
  • The switching process will start with a text message before a SIM card will be made available for pickup (subject to improvements)
  • Users need an active SIM and the requestor is the assignee of the mobile number to be ported
  • Users should have no existing court prohibitions
  • Users should have no pending transfer of ownership

The prolong lifespan of prepaid loads for cell phones are the product of joint memorandum being signed by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) and the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC).

The government agencies amended NTC's Memorandum Circular No. 03-07-2009, or the Guidelines on Prepaid Loads, which state that validity of prepaid loads shall correspond to the amount of load purchased.

According to Trade Secretary Ramon Lopez through this good news is Presidents Rodrigo Duterte's gift to the public this Christmas hoping that everyone can benefit from in the coming years.

Statistics show that there is 130 million cellphone subscription in the Philippines as of December 2016. Aside from this, it is found out that 90% of cellphone users in the Philippines are in prepaid. These numbers will benefit the extended expiry date of prepaid load to one year.

Lopez added that this is also aimed to help small and medium-sized businesses and to protect consumers.

Currently, a P10 pesos load or lower can be used only up to three days while prepaid credits more than P300 may last up to four mounts.

DO YOU FEEL ANY IMPROVEMENT IN YOUR INTERNET SPEED?

The internet speed in the Philippines has a reputation of one of the slowest in Asia and yet the most expensive. If you are an OFW who enjoy 100Mbps LTE speed in your host country, how would you feel if you are paying more just to get a speed of 3mbps unstable internet? Below is a video of actual speed test of PLDT MyDSL with 3Mbps speed at 6 AM. The speed test was taken at 6 in the morning which can be considered an off peak time, the story will come in an interesting twist when you take the same test during noon and night time. This is the problem of most OFWs who decided to come home for good to do stocks trading or online business. How would you survive with your newfound online business with internet speed who can't even hold its stability especially if there is no available fiber optic services in your area? Not to mention the business customs of the local telcos to put net capping in their so called "unlimited" internet service. A local telco said in a statement citing the Asia Network Quality Report of J.P. Morgan Securities covering the fourth quarter of 2016. That the internet speed in the Philippines improved in the last quarter of 2016.However, the statement did not include the original report, and details only covered mobile speed, not coverage and reliability. The internet speed in the Philippines has a reputation of one of the slowest in Asia and yet the most expensive. President Duterte once said that he will open Philippine market to foreign telcos if these existing service providers will not fix their services. If these improvements are going to be steady and with no extra cost for the Filipinos, then it may be a good sign of progress that will benefit everyone especially the OFWs who use the internet to keep in touch with their love ones abroad. However, the internet and telephone service has long been dominated by these two giant telcos. President
Duterte once said that he will open Philippine market to foreign telcos if these existing service providers will not fix their services. If these improvements are going to be steady and with no extra cost for the Filipinos, then it may be a good sign of progress that will benefit everyone especially the OFWs who use the internet to keep in touch with their love ones abroad.
