President Rodrigo once again warned Bureau of Customs and Bureau of Immigration officials not to open the balikbayan boxes sent by the OFWs to their loved one.
In a speech in Cagayan de Oro City, he warned that he will relieve the officials that will be involved in extortion and theft of the OFWS hard earned balikbayan boxes. He cited and strongly opposed the special treatment on government officials, skipping baggage screening, while the OFWs undergo strict inspection at the NAIA.
He also warned Customs and Immigrations personnel that if anyone would make a mistake in their respective outfits, everyone will be relieved of their posts.
President Duterte reiterated that he has already prohibited the opening of balikbayan boxes sent by Filipino workers abroad which contains goods that the OFWs saved over the months for their family back home.
He noted that after passing the initial x-ray screening,these items must not be subjected to random or arbitrary physical inspection.
