Price Tag Law In Business Establishments, Pushed By DTI

 The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) urged business establishments to comply with the provisions of the Price Tag Law or Republic Act (RA) 71 providing consumers with information that will enable them to compare the quality and prices of goods.

Senior Trade and Industry Development Specialist Engr. Lynna Joy Cardinal of DTI said that Price Tag will save time for the consumers and minimizes haggling.

Business establishments are urged to comply with the provisions of the Price Tag Law or Republic Act (RA) 71 to provide consumers with information that will enable them to compare the quality and prices of goods. The implementation of Price Tag is not only applicable to manufactured products liked canned goods, but for all commodities as well, sold in malls, supermarkets, and other business establishments, said Cardinal.  Aside from the Price Tag Act, businesses are also urged to comply with other Fair Trade Laws such as Product Standard, Business Name as well as Consumer Act of the Philippines particularly on the provisions of Weights and Measures. *Article 107. Penalties. – Any person who shall violate any provision of this Chapter or its implementing rules and regulations with respect to any consumer product which is not food, cosmetic, or hazardous substance shall upon conviction, be subject to a fine of not less than Five thousand pesos (P5,000.00) and by imprisonment of not more than one (1) year or both upon the discretion of the court.
In case of juridical persons, the penalty shall be imposed upon its president, manager or head. If the offender is an alien, he shall, after payment of fine and service of sentence, be deported without further deportation proceedings.
