Closed Circuit Television Cameras widely known as CCTV's are proven useful in solving crimes by identifying the suspects, alarming the authorities to do a quick response to prevent or suppress trouble and similar situations. It serves as the remote eyes of law enforcers. Business establishments, schools, banks and other institutions use CCTVs to monitor their premises creating a sense of security among the proprietors and clients.
The role of CCTV's in helping the authorities are evident as it can capture everything that happens within its range. Some CCTV's are even more sophisticated that it can be rotated 360 degrees and can be zoomed to further see the people's faces clearly. The mere presence of CCTV's in a certain area may cause bad entities to think twice in committing a crime and even if they pursue with their ill motive, they will be identified and eventually get caught.
In Dasmariñas, Cavite, the city government has installed CCTV's to safeguard the security of its citizens. There are working 100 CCTV units installed across the city that is being monitored 24/7. Mayor Elpidio Barzaga said that the CCTVs are useless without proper enforcement.
For public order and safety, the city government of Dasmariñas has installed additional working 100 CCTV units along major streets including footbridges. Around 80 units of CCTVs are installed within the city hall covering the whole institution. The public can watch the CCTV live feed through a local cable channel, thus, providing transparency in government transactions and ensuring that no corruption is happening within the city hall.
Aside from the CCTVs, the city government has roving vans equipped with CCTV cameras, microphones and speakers.
For the Cavite-born Senator Panfilo Lacson, other cities should emulate what Dasmariñas is doing for the city's peace and order and safety.
"If the entire Philippines will do a Dasmariñas City, you can just imagine how it will be progressive and peaceful...[these programs for public peace, order and safety,]" Lacson said.
The Cavite PNP believe that this is a huge step in fighting crimes in the area. The police assures the public that aside from keen monitoring, they will take appropriate actions for every crimes or corruptions caught on CCTV cameras.
