OFW Got Injured While Trying to Escape Abusive Employer in Kuwait

An attempt to escape her abusive employer has endangered the life of a Filipina domestic helper after she got injured after she jumped from the 6th floor of her employers residence in Kuwait.  A report of Kuwait times said that the HSW has been found to be using a fake passport  provided by the recruiter where she applied for work in Kuwait. The real identity of the HSW  who claims that she is only 17 years old and her real name is Malaiha Omar  and not a 24-year old Rahima Omar that appears to her passport.   Omar, was allegedly caught stealing from her employer and she admitted that she did it during the interview. But she claims that her employer had been  treating her harshly ever since she came in Kuwait to work for them last August 2016. She narrated that they whipped her with a belt, shout at her and hit her in the face for even a petty mistake. She doesn't have much problem with it until her employer discovered that she has stolen An amount of KD110.  At the hospital, she narrated how she  ended up jumping off at the 6th floor of the building that caused her an injured left eye and a fractured leg. Omar said that she is really 17 years old and  she is from  a village in Datu Uddin Sinsuat, Cotabato “My male employer was asking about [his] missing pants, ” he narrated. “Out of fear, I said I don’t know, but I knew where the pants are. I was just too scared to tell him because I don’t want to be whipped again. I accidentally burned the pants while I was ironing them. So, he inspected my cabinet and found the damaged pants inside. There, he also found the money ...When they said that they are calling [a] police, I was terribly scared,” she said.  "I don’t know what to do because I don’t want to be arrested, so I jumped from the sixth floor," she added.     Omar’s recruitment agency told the Philippine Embassy that she would not file a lawsuit against her employers.  “I went to the hospital to check her condition and see how we could be of help whether the agency is helping or not. According to the recruitment agency personnel I spoke with, the young girl will not be filing complaints against her sponsor because she said it was her fault,” an embassy representative said. However, Omar is not pardoned as she will face attempted suicide charges filed by the local police. However, Omar's claim that the recruitment agency provided the fake passport she used to have a job in Kuwait and cheated on her identity and age is so alarming. "The recruitment agency should be suspended and banned, and should be subjected for investigation, at least," says a Filcom leader in Kuwait. Given her age of 17, she is not capable enough to handle such stressful situations and the recruitment  agency who sent her has to be blamed. After all, it is illegal to accept an underage applicant and worst, deploy them abroad using a falsified passport.
