WHO ARE THE TOP DONORS OF PRESIDENT DUTERTE'S CAMPAIGN?

During President Rodrigo Duterte's presidential campaign, he described his donors as "Emilio Aguinaldo" symbolizing poor people who could afford to contribute as little as 5 pesos to help him for the campaign. On his Statement of Contributions and Expenditures (SOCE) he filed with the Commission on Elections (Comelec) after he won the presidency seem to tell a different story. According to his SOCE, the P375 million fund Duterte has raised for his campaign came from big businessmen. 13 biggest donors who donated P5 million or more for his campaign already comprises 89.28 percent or P334.8 million of his total campaign fund. Small donations or those P10,000 and below amount to just P175,313 — less than half of one percent or merely 0.046 percent of Duterte’s total campaign fund. About 18 other donors who donated from P1 million to P3.5 million with an additional P31.66 million, to Duterte's campaign. The Philippine Center on Investigative Journalism has released a list of President Duterte's top campaign donors they claim to be from the president's SOCE. It includes some prominent politicians like his running mate Senator Allan Peter Cayetano who donated P71.3 million, former MMDA Chairman Francis Tolentino ( P3.1 million), Alfredo Lim (P1 million) , Executive secretary Salvador Medialdea among others. Aside from the businessmen and the millionaires, the unsung donors of the Duterte campaign are the Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) who devoted their time supporting President Duterte in social media, making their own banners, making memes and sharing it throughout social media sites , encouraging their friends and relatives to vote for President Duterte. According to the DFA, the total turn-out of the Overseas Absentee Voting for the 2016 election has overwhelmingly set a new record high. The total OFWs who registered for the election reached to 1.3 million from the 737,000 registered in 2013. The reports about Duterte donors who got favors from the president is however true, and the biggest favor is given by the President to the OFWs and their families, who are now enjoying the benefits of the programs this administration has formulated and implemented for them.
