With regards to the food we eat, the very first thing we consider is safety. Food poisoning is imminent and we need to be careful what we eat especially when we go and dine outside. We should be cautious about whether the food we buy from the restaurant or street kiosk is prepared properly and hygienically. We should be aware of the expiration date of the food items we buy from supermarkets and grocery stores. Sponsored Links Expired food items is a big deal in the Middle East particularly in Kuwait where the Baladiya conducts routine check-up on food items sold and used by groceries and restaurants. Keeping expired items in these countries is a serious offense and could cost any business to be closed with revoked licences. It is not advisable to consume expired food items but the question is: Could you still eat a recently expired food? An expiration date indicates that the food product is safe during a certain period.beyond this date the food item looses its quality and therefore will not guarantee its safety anymore. Can you still eat it? Yes, but at your own risk. For the products which are microbiologically stable like biscuits and chips, the term "best before" or "consume before" is used. However, the indicated date may not necessarily suggest that the product is not safe for human consumption after the date but it is certain the the quality is not as good as it is on the stage of deterioration. Food and Drug Administration and Bureau of Food and Drugs discourages consumption of food items beyond its expiration dates. You should not also give it for animal consumption as canned goods contain sodium nitrate which can be harmful for the animals. The best thing to do with these expired foods is to dispose them right away and never try to recycle or consume them. Our health is more than the cost of these food items and we should not take any chances. Advertisement Read More: ©2017 THOUGHTSKOTO
