The incident has reported number of casualties. Huge waves had caused the boat to sustain a hole and capsized off on a stormy seas.
Local boats have already rescued some passengers near Polilio island.
Rescue boats and helicopters are sent to the area but they cannot operate well due to the severe weather condition brought about by tropical typhoon Vinta.
Senior Supt. Rhoderick Armamento, Quezon police director, said most passengers of the MV Mercraft 3 bound for Polilio island have already been rescued and accounted for based on the passenger manifest but the information is still being validated.
Rescuers are still scouring the water in search of other possible passengers in spite of being hampered by strong winds and huge waves.
Coastguard said the ferry had not been overloaded based on the records shown in the manifesto. It has 251 passengers onboard way too short for its capacity of 286 people.
