Finding a job in the Philippines is a competition. With thousands of graduates every year that are added to the unemployed workforce due to lack of experience plus those who are experienced workers that the contract has expired or being laid off due to company cost-cutting, finding a job is just like passing on a needle hole.
Last Labor day, DOLE conducted a huge job fair in different areas of the country. Out of 66,425 applicants, only 6,302 or roughly 10% were hired on the spot on the Labor Day job fair. Meaning, there are enough jobs but the applicants lack soft skills. The main problem is that their skills are not matched with the available jobs offered by the companies.
The Jobstart program seeks to provide training to the Filipinos by giving them the proper training that helps them to start their careers and a successful paid employment. It is an employment facilitation program by the Department of labor and Employment with the cooperation of the Canadian Government and technical assistance provided by Asian Development Bank.
However, the Jobstart program being a useful tool to land on a profitable job can only accommodate around 40,000 trainees per year. 584 new Jobstart training graduated this year with guaranteed jobs waiting for them.
Congressman Carlo Nograles said that he will push that this program will be implemented throughout the country to let all Filipinos enjoy the benefits and to have equal opportunities for everyone.
Presently, Jobstart training are only available in selected areas like General Trias in Cavite, Quezon City, City of Taguig, Davao City and San Fernando Pampanga.
