Gina Lopez Confirmation as DENR Secretary Rejected; Who Voted For Her and Who Voted Against?



With the recommendation read by Senator Manny Pacquiao as chairman on Committee on Environment and Natural Resources, the appointment of Gina Lopez has been rejected by the Commission on appointments today, May 3, 2017. With 13 votes opposing the confirmation, Gina Lopez has been denied to occupy the position as DENR Secretary. Pacquiao said that the decision does not go according to his personal preference but the decision of the majority shall prevail.  Senate Majority Leader Vicente 'Tito"  Sotto III, Sen. Loren Legarda and members of the Liberal Party (LP) in the commission led by Senator Francis Pangilinan, manifested and said they voted in favor of the appointment of Lopez for the record.  Of the 25-member body, eight voted to confirm Lopez’s ad interim appointment:  Senate Minority Franklin Drilon,  Senators Bam Aquino,  Kiko Pangilinan,  Tito Sotto   JV Ejercito  Loren Legarda  and Representatives Joel Almario from Davao Oriental  Julieta Cortuna from A-Teacher Party-list  Rosenda Ann Ocampo of Manila.   People who Voted NO.  Ronaldo Zamora - San Juan  Rodolfo Albano III - Isabela 1st district  Wes Gatchalian - Valenzuela 1st district  Antonio Floirendo - Davao del Norte 2nd district  Roy Loyola - 5th district of Cavite  Benhur Salimbangon - Cebu 4th district  Josephine Ramirez-Sato - Occidental Mindoro Abraham Tolentino - 6th District Cavite  Aquilino Pimentel Junior - Senate President  Alan Peter Cayetano  Juan Miguel Zubiri  Gregorio Honasan  Panfilo Lacson  Sonny Angara  Manny Pacquiao  Ralph Recto.
