As Overseas Filipino Workers (OFW), are you ready to try your luck, working in Russia? If yes, this is a good news for you.

It is because the Philippines is eyeing Russia as a new destination for OFWs after bilateral relation between two countries continues to get stronger.

The warming relations between the Philippines and Russia may bring opportunities for both countries.

More jobs and opportunities are waiting for OFWs and professionals who wants to work in Russia since the country is looking for highly skilled workers, medical and health professionals, engineers and construction workers.

It was last year when Russian President Vladimir Putin and President Rodrigo Duterte met in Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit in Lima, Peru.

As an update, Department of Labor and Employment Secretary Silvestre Bello III said that he and Russian Ambassador to Manila Igor Anatolyyevich Khovaev have agreed to establish “a solid legal basis for cooperation” for the benefit of Filipino migrant workers.

Saying that Russia is in need of more labor, Khovaev also commended the Filipino work ethics and skills.

“Filipino workers are well known for their hard work, and for being law abiding citizens. Russians and Filipinos have similar values. We need to explore new possibilities and opportunities. We hope to start building a solid legal basis for this,” the Russian envoy added.

According to labor chief, the Russian ambassador gave assurance to give ample protection to the rights and legitimate interest of OFWs in Russia.

“I already sent a memo to the President requesting him to include the possible deployment of skilled and professional workers to Russia,” he said.

Bello added that there is a demand for construction and household service workers in Russia.

In 2014, there were about 4,000 OFWs in Russia who were working in construction, hotels, and households.

The latest Social Weather Stations survey shows a spike in Filipinos' trust toward Russia.
