House Bill Requires Government Officials To Use Public Transportation Once A Month


Traffic is the the problem that the commuters in the Philippines is facing everyday and deemed almost impossible to solve. With millions of commuters and growing number of vehicles added by inefficient and faulty railways, this dilemma is a burden for every commuters who come to work schools and elsewhere. This is the problem that has been handed down from administration to administration and unless the government formulate and implement an effective solution, will stay for generations. Representative Niel Abayon of AANGAT TAYO Party List passed a bill that will require all public officials to experience the sentiments of the riding public by ordering them to take public transportation once a month. House Bill 6195 or the "Public Servants' Commuting via Public Transport Act" requires all elected and appointed national and local government officials and public servants with the rank of division chief to department secretary. The President , Vice-president, supreme court justices and those in serious medical conditions are exempted. Public officials can take their pick from buses, jeepneys, trains, taxis. It they have to travel by air, officials has to use the economy class seats. penalties awaits those who will not comply. The bill proponent said that this will help the lawmakers to further influence their policy making to solve the growing traffic problem in the country. Some public officials agreed on the policy. DFA Secretary Allan Peter Cayetano said that it doesn't even need to be a bill for the public officials to do it. They can take initiative and take public transportation systems to feel how the common people struggle everyday. President Duterte and his cabinet now embarks with massive infrastructure projects to provide ease in transportation by building roads and mass transport system. NEW DRIVERS LICENSE FEES; MOTORCYCLE LANE TO BE STRICTLY ENFORCED



One of the promises of President Rodrigo Duterte to the Filipino people is to extend the validity of  passport  and the drivers license to make the lives of the citizen easier. The lawmakers said they do not see any problems  in making these promises a reality but there will be additional fees.These promises are among  the  accomplishments of  the Duterte administration in the first 100 days alone.




As said earlier, the Filipinos can now  enjoy the extended drivers license validity of five years with the following new fees:








Meanwhile, as a solution to improve traffic conditions along the metropolis, an initiative from i-ACT (Inter-Agency Council on Traffic) to  strictly enforce the motorcycle lane policy  will n take effect beginning Monday, November 14.It will cover the motorcycle lanes along EDSA, C-5, Macapagal Ave., and Commonwealth Ave.
Prior to this, on Saturday and Sunday, i-ACT, along with members of the Motorcycle Philippines Federation (MCPF) will conduct trial runs to familiarize and orient all motorcycle riders on the policy.
MMDA General Manager Tim Orbos said that strict enforcement  of the motorcycle lane will help ease the traffic situation as well as minimize the numbers of  fatal accidents happening on the main thoroughfares involving motorcycles.
Road Crash Statistical Reports show that from January to April this year, a total of 7,033 motorcycle accidents were recorded.Out of the 265 average daily accidents in Metro Manila, 3o of which involves motorcycle riders, fatal cases recorded was 82.MMDA records in 2015 has a total of 18,668 motorcycle-related accidents, 238 resulted to deaths.
The dry run will include checking the motorcycle riders' proper gears like helmets,shoes, long pants, and the mandatory switching on of headlights even during daytime.Signal lights and side mirrors will be checked as well and flag down the motorcycles who will fail to comply.
MMDA also agreed to conduct a seminar for the safety of motorcycle riders.

We look at the frustrations of working in Philippines capital Manila, and what the government is doing to address it."

 "Gridlocked for much of the day, Manila's roads are symbolic of the significant infrastructure problems the Philippines faces. Vast amounts of time are lost, and huge amounts of pollution generated, by the capital's stop-go traffic.
But despite that, commuters find a way to cope when road conditions are bumper-to-bumper. The BBC's Rico Hizon spoke to some of them."
