Mislatel, a joint venture between China Telecom and Davao tycoon Dennis Uy, pledged a minimum speed of 27 Mbps in its pilot year, according to Department of Information and Communications Technology officer in charge Eliseo Rio. Globe Telecom and PLDT Inc offer up to 10 Mbps in their most basic packages, although subscribers often complain about getting less of what they are actually paying. The new telco promise to bring speeds up to 55 Mbps by the second year of operations, Mislatel will be "nearly at par" with speeds in Singapore according to Rio. If it fails to fulfill its commitments, the government would take back the frequency awarded to Mislatel and collect a P14-billion performance bond. Mislatel will be given six months grace period to comply said DICT. Mislatel is expected to begin its services and accepting subscribers by the middle of 2019. In spite of the rising prices of commodities and services and others due to the high inflation rate, many Filipinos believe that the country is on the right track. Just recently, the new minimum fare is being set to P10 while the minimum wage remains stuck. That is what the latest SWS survey indicates. Ads Sponsored Links The latest survey shows that from 70% in the second quarter of this year, the statistics went up to 75%. On the other hand, only 22% believed the Philippines is in the wrong path while 3% of the 1,500 respondents did not give an answer during the conducted survey. Malacañang welcomes this result as a vindication that the administration is doing their job the keep the country on track. “PRRD emphasized in numerous occasions that as government workers, we are here to serve the people. Our objective as public servants is thus being able to perform our respective duties well,” Presidential spokesperson Salvador Panelo said. “Therefore, we treat the results of this recent survey not as an accolade but as an inspiration for our men and women in the government as they persist in carrying on with their roles in the service,” Panelo added. According to the presidential spokesperson, the strong public appreciation would further engage the Filipino people in supporting the Duterte administration in building “a nation where all Filipinos can experience comfortable and decent lives under a trustworthy government.” Filed under the category of commodities and services, high inflation rate, Filipinos, minimum fare, minimum wage, SWS survey

Third Party Company Providing Up to 200Mbps Speed To Break Telco Duopoly In The Philippines

The telecommunications business has been dominated by two giants PLDT and Globe Telecom eversince, leaving Filipinos with no choice but to avail their internet services. According to surveys, the internet connection in the Philippines is among the slowest internet speed in the world at a higher subscription cost. Students, Overseas Filipino Workers and their families, companies and individuals with online businesses depend on reliable internet connection. The poor internet speed is evident that even Alibaba Executive, Jack Ma came to experience it when he visited the country and he said that the internet in the Philippines is "not good". President Rodrigo Duterte said that he will allow foreign players to enter the Philippine telecommunications market to provide good quality internet service for the Filipinos. Just recently, a telecommunications service provided which offers up to 200mbps of internet speed at a lower cost was chosen to enter the Philippine market. This initiative is according to the President's mandate to provide Filipinos with affordable internet service without sacrificing the speed and quality. Sponsored Links Presidential Communications Operations Office Secretary Martin Andanar said that the government has chosen China Telecom, the biggest telco in China and duly registered in Hong Hong Stocks Exchange, to be the third player that will break the telco duopoly in the country. In China, the citizens are paying 196 Chinese Yuan for a months subscription with speed of 100mbps, that is only around P1,200+. Whereas in the Philippines, that same cost is good only for 3mbps speed. Letting foreign internet providers in the Philippine market allowing competition will make drastic changes in the internet package pricing and speed and the Filipinos are expected to benefit from it especially the OFWs. However, Andanar clarified that before China Telecom can enter the local market, it needs to be tied in a local partner in accordance with the existing laws. Foreign company shares should not exceed to 40% with its Philippine partner. Source: Inquirer.net Advertisement Read More: ©2017 THOUGHTSKOTO

For Faster Internet Services, Pres. Duterte To Allow Foreign Telcos to Come In

President Duterte conveyed his plan to allow foreign telecommunications companies to do business in the country to improve internet services for Filipinos. The President said, stressing that he would allow four to six foreign internet service providers to enter the country. He said a Chinese firm and a Singaporean-based company had already expressed desire to set up stations here. The Chief Executive earlier issued a warning to local telecommunications firms to improve the services that they provide to the public, otherwise they would have to compete with new players. The President in conclusion said he remains grateful for the overwhelming support he has been receiving from the Filipino public, as shown in recent surveys. DUTERTE: "I WILL OPEN MEDIA, ENERGY AND TELECOMMUNICATIONS SECTORS TO FOREIGN PLAYERS."

Communications is a vital necessity for the Filipinos nowadays especially for the OFWs and their families.
OFW and families rely on the internet to communicate with their loved ones back home.
But  the high  cost of  of telephone and internet subscription in the Philippines doesn't seem to match the  quality of services the Filipino people get. The Philippines has a reputation of being one of the slowest internet service in Asia. The internet service in the country is only faster than war thorn Afghanistan.

The President addressed the problem even during his campaign and even allocated the budget from his state visit to China to improve the internet speed in the Philippines as well as solve energy problems.

After attending the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit, President Rodrigo Duterte said that  he wants to open media, communications and energy sectors in the Philippines to foreign players to improve the quality of service.
"My decision now, this moment, is bubuksan ko ang Pilipinas," Duterte said upon arriving at the Davao City International Airport. The President clarifies that he doesn't want  a quarrel with the local business magnates and he will take his statements back if the local telecommunication companies will dive their prices down.

Duterte said opening up communications, the airwaves, and the entire energy sector would enable the country to move faster for the  benefit of the poor.
The President said that: “It’s about time that we share the money of the entire country and to move faster, make competition open to all.”
Also, the president said regulatory requirements and institutional arrangements are being studied to hasten the entry of new players in the energy sector amid corruption allegations in the Energy Regulatory Commission.
The president warned telecom owners in the country to shape up or face foreign competition. In May, after winning the elections, Duterte also issued the same warning to power industry players.

“The Philippines acknowledges the significant role of more vibrant telecommunication and power industries to be able to participate in the global market with a competitive edge.
“Let us open everything para matapos na itong kalbaryo ng Pilipino.”  President Duterte stated.
