OFWs TO BENEFIT OWWA REBATE PROGRAM, MEDPLUS PROGRAM THIS YEAR

UPDATE MARCH 2018:
In his Facebook Live last March 23, Cacdac said, OFWs who have been OWWA members for the past 10 years and have not availed of any OWWA programs will be entitled to the said rebates. Cacdac said the agency hired an actuary to study and analyze the statistic to calculate the rebate risk and premiums.

GOV'T PROGRAMS FOR OFW'S

The government is trying its best to provide projects and program for Overseas Filipino Workers (OFW). If you are an OFW you should know your rights, benefits, and programs soon you will be benefited of.

This year there are many changes that the government has implemented and will implement more for OFWs and here is the top five!

OEC is no longer a requirement to all vacationing OFWs to prove that he is an overseas Filipino worker.

All vacationing OFW that eventually will return to the same company or employer is exempted from getting OEC.

But make sure you are registered in Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) data bank or the Balik Manggagawa (BM) Online.

Remember OFWs, OEC is no longer required for re-contract workers.

Membership of an OFW in Overseas Welfare Workers Administration (OWWA) is now up to two years from the former co-terminus with the employment contract.

This means that even if the employment contract is prematurely terminated, OFW can still avail of his benefits from OWWA because of his two-year period membership.

The membership can be renewed at the end of the two-year period.

This is base on the OWWA Act 108001 which was passed last May 31, 2016.

3. OFW REBATE PROGRAM

OFW who regularly contribute to OWWA fund for 10 years can get a rebate from the agency. But this applies only to OFW who has never applied for any benefits from OWWA.

OWWA is still waiting for the Implementing Rules and Regulation (IRR) of this as a guide in the implementation of the Rebate Program.

As simple reminders to OFWs, always keep your records of OWWA membership payments including receipts or any document that will prove your membership to OWWA.

This will serve as proof that you are entitled to Rebate Program.

4. ONE STOP SERVICE CENTER FOR OFWs

Other than the One Stop Service Center for OFWs (OSSCO) on the ground floor of the POEA Building in Ortigas Avenue, every region in the whole country is also mandated to set up their own OSSCO.

This center will cater all the needs of OFWs and aspiring OFWs especially for the processing of all their documentary needs.

A total of 14 government agencies positioned inside the OSSCO.

Among them is Department of Foreign Affairs; National Bureau of Investigation; Social Security System; Pag-IBIG fund; Commission on Higher Education; Overseas Workers’ Welfare Administration; PhilHealth; Professional Regulation Commission; Technical Education, Skills and Development Authority (TESDA); Maritime Industry Authority; and the Bureau of Immigration

This is in line with President Duterte's mandate that all processing of papers of an OFW must be finished within 72 hours or three days.

About 24 million overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) are set to benefit from the supplemental medical assistance program being offered by the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) in cooperation with PhilHealth.
