TOURISTS ARRIVAL IN THE PHILIPPINES EXCEEDS 4 MILLION MARK









Aside from OFW remittances,the tourism industry  is one of the bread and butter of the Philippine economy.The country earned P164.25 billion in tourism receipts from January to August this year alone,up to 7.92%.However,in the month of August,the growth in tourism receipts slowed down as it decreased by 28.58% .
Tourists stay here with the average of 9.65 nights and the  expenditure for the month amounts to P4,095.32 per day.



This year,foreign tourist arrivals has exceeded the four million mark from the beginning of the year  up to the end of August,the first time in the country in just the first eight months of the year.
According to the Department of Tourism (DOT),the figure was higher by 12.9%,compared to 3.59 million arrivals in the same period last year.
Most months of the year have observed double digit gains,except for the months of August and May.
For August alone,the increase of 4.59% in tourist arrival  or a total of 502,739 tourists.
It is the first time in the country to reach over 500,000 arrivals during the said month.



Neighboring Asian Countries contributed to 60.95% of the total market share  during the period of the first eight months,while 17.47 of the total arrivals are from North and South America.About 10.38% from Europe,5.13% came from Australia.

Among other countries with significant number of visits in the Philippines includes:

-United Kingdom (117,535)
-Canada (114,074)
-Malaysia (95,129)

The Philippine tourism sector also eyed substantial growth of tourists from Hong Kong and India.
