More Filipinos Believe That The Country Is On The Right Track

In spite of the rising prices of commodities and services and others due to the high inflation rate, many Filipinos believe that the country is on the right track. Just recently, the new minimum fare is being set to P10 while the minimum wage remains stuck. That is what the latest SWS survey indicates.

 The latest survey shows that from 70% in the second quarter of this year, the statistics went up to 75%.
On the other hand, only 22% believed the Philippines is in the wrong path while 3% of the 1,500 respondents did not give an answer during the conducted survey.

Malacañang welcomes this result as a vindication that the administration is doing their job the keep the country on track.

“PRRD emphasized in numerous occasions that as government workers, we are here to serve the people. Our objective as public servants is thus being able to perform our respective duties well,” Presidential spokesperson Salvador Panelo said.

“Therefore, we treat the results of this recent survey not as an accolade but as an inspiration for our men and women in the government as they persist in carrying on with their roles in the service,” Panelo added.

According to the presidential spokesperson, the strong public appreciation would further engage the Filipino people in supporting the Duterte administration in building “a nation where all Filipinos can experience comfortable and decent lives under a trustworthy government.”

NUMBER OF JOBLESS IN THE PHILIPPINES IN ITS LOWEST UNDER DUTERTE LEADERSHIP

Jobless Filipinos has reached the all time low for nearly nine years in a survey conducted by Social Weather Stations (SWS) which boosted optimism on job availability among the Filipinos for the next 12 months.

Presidential Communications Operations Office Secretary Martin M. Andanar said in a text message that “the lower joblessness rate is a result of the Duterte administration’s policy of attracting investments and enhancing the inclusiveness of growth by creating more jobs.”

Rene E. Ofreneo, professor at the University of the Philippines School of Labor and Industrial Relations,  “continuing growth of the economy” attributed to the decline in joblessness in the third quarter.

The growth of the country's gross Domestic Product (GDP) has reached 7.1% average at the last quarter  is already hitting the top end of their target which is 6-7 % target range for the entire 2016.

“I  have the impression that the country is growing despite the politicians mainly because, as a nation, we are remittance driven and we are a consumer-based economy,” Mr. Ofreneo added.

STANDARD OF LIVING IN THE PHILIPPINES GETTING BETTER ACCORDING TO SURVEY?

There are 9.4 million families in the Philippines who considered themselves poor and “food poor” in the past three months.

This is based on a nationwide survey conducted by Social Weather Station (SWS) last September 24-27 among 1,200 respondents.

This means that four in 10 Filipino families consider themselves poor or "mahirap".

Base on the result, it is the new record low and the lowest self-rated poverty since April 1983 after the result shows that 42% of Filipino families rated themselves poor.

“Food-poor” means families consider the food they eat as poor.

Compared to last June 2016, there are 45% of Filipino families across the country who considered themselves poor or an equivalent of 10.5 million households.

Also pointed out that the self-rated poverty result “has been either steady or declining for eight consecutive quarters” as follows:

• 52 percent in December 2014

• 51 percent in March 2015 and June 2015

• 50 percent in September 2015 and December 2015

• 46 percent in April 2016

• 45 percent in June 2016, and

• 42 percent in September 2016.

According to SWS, there were fewer Filipino families saying that they are poor in the rest of Luzon from 41 percent to 34 percent and Mindanao with 54 percent to 49 percent.

However, in Metro Manila, self-rated poverty increases from 32 percent to 36 percent and the Visayas from 52 percent to 56 percent.

Residents in Metro Manila who consider themselves poor said that they would need at least P16,000 per month to be not included as "poor."

For the rest of Luzon, they said, they need P15,000 per month while P10,000 per month in Visayas and Mindanao.
