First Post Arrival Orientation Seminar To Be Held In Jeddah

The moment that the overseas Filpino workers (OFW) land abroad, the Philippine Overseas Labor Office (POLO) in their country of destination conducts a post-arrival orientation seminar (PAOS) on the host country’s profile, culture, economy, education, laws, and working environment. Topics on the do’s and don’ts in the host country, including precautionary measures to take in case of work malpractice, are also discussed during the PAOS.

Cacdac added that the OWWA will focus on mandatory financial literacy seminars for OFWs.

Among the topics included in the PDOS are the cultural differences in other countries, do's and don'ts abroad, health and safety tips, government services, and the rights and responsibilities of an OFW.

However, the Department of Labor and Employment is eyeing the cancellation of the mandatory Pre-Departure Orientation Seminars (PDOS).

According to DOLE Secretary Silvestre Bello III, he is looking for possibilities that seminar as a requirement for first time OFWs will be made at the level of recruitment agencies.

MUST WATCH: Son's Emotional Message to Mom Who is Leaving Them to Work Abroad

A mother and son message on a normally entertaining and funny TV show has everyone left in tears. In the video clip, a ten year old boy named Jaycee is seen with a sad face as the show's host, Willi Revillame interviews him. Knowing well that the boy's mom named Cel is leaving, Willie asks Jaycee "What would you like to say to your mom?" Jaycee begins with "Mom, wherever you will go, always take care, and do not forget about us. I love you so much." Mommy Cel tries hard to hold back tears even as audience members start to cry too. As sad silence descends on everyone, Willie follows up with the question "Is it OK for you that your mom is leaving?" Jaycee answers "Opo" (yes). Willie then asks, "Why did you allow your mom to go, even if it saddens you so much?" Jaycee answers "It's because of the hardships in life." Jaycee reveals that in the beginning, he didn't agree to his mom working abroad. He added, "Mom, always pray, and always take care there, for us" Speaking to the camera, Jaycee speaks to his older sister at home, whom Willie reveals as with illness. "Even if your are sick, always remember mom" Jaycee said. In her turn to speak, Cel says "My children, I love you so much. I maybe far but always remember that you're always here in my heart." Everyone is left in tears as mother and son hug onstage. Cel, speaking to her daughter via the camera, reveals that the real purpose of her going abroad is to earn enough money for her daughters treatment. She said that at the moment, all she wants is for her daughter to walk. Thus the need for the sad separation.

DOLE Chief Hopes to Terminate Mandatory PDOS for First Timer OFWs

DOLE Secretary Silvestre Bello III is planning to cancel the mandatory seminars for first timer OFWS commonly called Pre-Orientation Departure Seminars (PDOS). He said in an interview with CNN Philippines that the seminar as a requirement prior to departure should be conducted by the recruitment agencies.

In a PDOS setting there are different conductors or speakers, some from bank representatives, language author and others. Some of the topics that are being discussed in the PDOS are the cultural differences and adjustments in other countries, what to do and not to do in that particular country, health and safety tips, government services, the rights and responsibilities of an OFW and other concerns. Watch this viral and very funny PDOS video by Mang Teteng, a bank representative.

Secretary Bello asked: "What can you teach them in six hours? These OFWs are just too excited to leave, wala sa focus nila yung tinuturo niyo diyan ...so if you want to train them... do it before they are qualified to be deployed. Responsibility yan ng agency, bago mo ideploy yung OFW, dapat na-train na ... So I will do away with that."

BREAKING NEWS: Now Mandatory for First Timer OFW to Take Up Pre-Employment Orientation Seminar Online (PEOS) of POEA with Certificate

This is mandatory for first time overseas workers. Do you know that you can take up and study for FREE via ONLINE now your Pre-Employment Orientation Seminar from POEA? And after you finish the online course and passed the short quizzes, you can download or print your PEOS Certificate.

Labor and Employment Secretary Rosalinda Dimapilis-Baldoz, chairman of the Governing Board of the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) recently announced that the Board has approved a resolution requiring all first time overseas land-based and sea-based worker-applicants to undergo mandatory Pre-Employment Orientation Seminar (PEOS) through the PEOS Online website  at no cost.
“The PEOS is designed to help an  OFW prepare in terms of having  the right information that he/she needs so he/she  can be assured of  success in working abroad,” said Baldoz, adding that the PEOS Online is free and easily accessible  to  worker-applicants.
Governing Board Resolution No. 6, Series of 2016 was signed by Secretary Baldoz; POEA Administrator Hans Leo J. Cacdac, vice chairperson; and board members Estrelita Hizon, Alexander E. Asuncion, Milagros Isabel A. Cristobal, and Felix M. Oca.
In issuing  the resolution, Baldoz said the Governing Board realizes the need to provide better protection and empowerment to prospective OFWs through a comprehensive education program that provides adequate, relevant, and useful information to guide overseas worker-applicants in  the  important decision on whether to consider overseas employment over local employment or other livelihood opportunities available in the country.
To effect such a comprehensive education program, Baldoz said the POEA has made available the PEOS modules online.  The online version of the PEOS boasts of comprehensive self-training modules that highlight everything prospective OFWs need to know about working overseas, such as the application requirements and procedures, as well as POEA services using video clips and presentation slides.
The resolution, Baldoz added,  also addresses the clamor  from various  non-government organizations, civil society, and  even industry leaders to make the PEOS mandatory, particularly to first time overseas worker-applicants.
“The PEOS was instituted as a welfare intervention to complement the Pre-Departure  Orientation Seminar (PDOS) in providing information  that would prepare  and guide workers in making a responsible choice about going abroad,” she said.
Overseas worker-applicants can log on to www.peos.poea.gov.ph anytime at the comfort of their home, in an internet cafe, or even through their mobile devices, to experience PEOS almost similarly to as if they were doing it inside the training room.
