Number Of OFW Household Workers Continues To Swell — POEA

The number of Filipinos who are working overseas as household service workers (HSWs) continues to rise in spite of numerous incidents of maltreatment and abuse among their ranks particularly those who are deployed in Saudi Arabia and Kuwait. As their number swells, the illegal recruiters also swarms. 
Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) data shows that since 2008 the number of HSWs started to increase significantly and its peak has been recorded on 2016 on its highest at around 275,073. This year the number is at 124,970 and the largest concentration of deployment is still Saudi Arabia and Kuwait.

Migration expert Emmanuel Geslani said that foreign owned recruitment agencies which are illegally recruiting in the Philippines due to high demand for household service workers abroad.

The POEA is starting an investigation that will result to finding out any group who serves as dummies of foreign recruitment agencies.
Meanwhile, negotiations are underway between the government and and three countries that may be a potential destinations for the HSWs.

POEA, however, advices the HSWs to try other job positions where their capabilities might be useful. They can apply as factory workers which can give them around P30,000-P90,000 compared to P20,000 basic pay for HSWs.

They are being encouraged to find other jobs aside from being HSWs as the nature of their job is more vulnerable to abuse and maltreatment.

South Korea Is In Need of More Than 5,000 Factory Workers!

Are you willing to work in Korea and received a salary of P59,000 a month? Well, this is a good opportunity for you.

South Korea is in need of more than 5,000 factory workers this year.

Filipino workers are needed particularly in the field of electronics, textile, chemical, and food processing factories in South Korea.

According to Philippine Overseas Employment Agency (POEA), salary for this work will be $1,200 or P59,000 per month, but the increase is possible especially for the hardworking.

"Pag masipag ka pa, aabutin ng P90,000. Ibig sabihin ko sa masipag, 'yung mga overtime," said Jocelyn Sanchez, deputy administrator of POEA.

POEA reminded the applicant that this is no-placement fee job opportunity because it is government to government transaction.

Sachez said, only the POEA will process the application of all the applicant.

For those who are interested, the applicant must register in an employment permit system in POEA website for skills test schedule.

The job interview will not be needed since the application is done online.

Once passed the job applicant will be included in the lists to be submitted for Korean employer.

"Higher the score, mas priority ka i-hire. Sa pinag-aralan, kahit high school graduate. Sa experience, mabuti kung mahaba," ayon kay Sanchez.

Applicant should also pass the basic Korean language test that is why language training before the exam is a must.

The POEA reminded that the applicants will shoulder their own plane ticket and process their own visa as well.
