Vacationing OFWs From Kuwait Must Secure A Clearance From POLO-OWWA

Due to the existing deployment ban of all overseas Filipino workers (OFW), vacationing OFWs has to secure a clearance from POLO-OWWA to avoid the hassle of missing their flight even they presented an OEC. Kuwait To Sign Agreement for Filipino Workers' Welfare With A Condition!

Kuwait is ready to sign a bilateral agreement with the Philippines to improve the welfare of Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) in their country, but it comes with a condition. Kuwaiti government wants Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) to first, lift the deployment ban imposed on all Filipino workers bound to their country so that they could continue to hire Filipino workers for different jobs.
Kuwait is ready to sign a bilateral agreement with the Philippines to improve the welfare of Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) in their country, but it comes with a condition.

Kuwaiti government wants Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) to first, lift the deployment ban imposed on all Filipino workers bound to their country so that they could continue to hire Filipino workers for different jobs.

DOLE Chief Silvestre Bello III said Kuwaiti Ambassador assured him that as soon as deployment ban is lifted, they will sign the bilateral agreement.

But as of the moment, the temporary ban on OFWs in Kuwait is still in effect due to the failure of Philippines’ labor attaché to submit a report demanded by the government.

Bello explained he asked the labor attaché to come up with his own findings that will explain the actual cause of death of the seven Filipino maids who died in Kuwait. However, they received a "half-baked" report from a designated person from Ministry of Interior of Kuwait and not from our country's labor attaché.

According to Bello, the report is important because this will be the basis of the temporary ban on Filipino workers in Kuwait should be lifted to a total ban would be declared.

Bello added that the labor attaché is expected to submit a report of his own findings anytime this week.

On the other hand, some OFWs are asking the government to give exemption to skilled workers bound to Kuwait. Most 250,000 Filipino workers in Kuwait are domestic helpers that are prone to maltreatment and abuse by their employer.

DOLE EYES DEPLOYMENT BAN OF DH IN KUWAIT


The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) is studying for the possibilities of imposing a ban on sending Filipino domestic worker in Kuwait. This is because of the reported cases of abuse from their employers. Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Secretary Silvestre Bello III said they are concerned with the rising number of cases of abuse of household helpers in Kuwait.

Other than this there are many cases of domestic helpers that escape from their employer due to abuse or maltreatment.

But Bello clarifies that skilled workers such as electricians, welders, construction workers and many other will not be affected if the ban will be imposed.

DOLE also promise that there are a help and livelihood opportunities for Filipino workers that will be repatriated from the said country. (Source:http://www.abante.com.ph/)

NEARLY THOUSAND OFWS IN KUWAIT SUFFERS DELAYED WAGES






Around 1,000 overseas Filipino workers in Kuwait we not being paid their salaries by their employer for the past two to four months.

With this the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) assured that it will extend all necessary help to 847 distressed OFW in Kuwait.

DOLE Secretary Silvestre Bello III said they are willing to repatriate those OFWs in addition to more than 10,200 OFWs from Riyadh, Al Khobar and Jeddah in Saudi Arabia.

Those OFWs from Saudi Arabia become jobless or retrenched due to the effect of the slump of oil prices in the Middile East early this year.

Bello said that there are 847 OFW in Kuwait that did not received their salary from their employer, the Kharafi National KSC for the past two to four months.

Of the said numbers, 773 are laborers and 74 are in supervisory, engineering, and administrative positions.

Bello disclosed that representatives from the POLO and Kharafi National KSC already met last month to discuss the problem of delayed payments of salaries.

Accordingly the Kharafi management agreed to settle their obligation to the affected OFW by the end of October.

As of now, the said Kuwaiti company allowed their workers to resign and return to their country.

They are also allowed to transfer to other companies if they are already employed to Kharafi for more than three years.

Due to unpaid salaries, Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) has already ordered disqualification of Kharafi National KSC from the country's overseas employment program.

 There are more than 220,000 OFWs in Kuwait. Majority of them work as domestic helpers or about 60 percent.

82 stranded OFW in Saudi, returned home

Eighty-two stranded overseas Filipino workers in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia has returned home on November 4.

This, after their unfavorable experience working in the Middle East. They are included in thousands OFW who loses a job when oil prices slump.

According to Victorino Izo, one of the 82 OFWs that they did not receive their salary for how many months but there are OFWs in Saudi who did not receive wages for more than a year.

Because of the unfortunate situation, many of them are forced to work outside of their contract, such as gardening and selling their vegetable and other "sidelines" just to have little money to live.

According to Philippine Overseas Employment Administration, there are 2,000 jobless OFWs that already returned home but there are more than 8,000 who need to be repatriated from Saudi Arabia.
