Bringing Back the OFWs Home, Still Top Priority Of The Duterte Gov't

Among the top priorities of the Duterte government is to bring back every OFWs home for good by generating jobs and other sources that will give them adequate income for the needs of their family. Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello reiterated that the President'[s final aim is to bring all OFWs home. In line with this, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) aims to create 7.5 million jobs by 2020, and keep the unemployment rate at 5 percent to convince the OFWs to return home. Bello added that to realize the goal, government agencies should nurture an environment conducive to the return of OFWs. Bello added that the government’s P890.9 billion infrastructure under "build, build, build" project, as well as other infrastructure projects backed by Japanese and Chinese investors, will trigger a construction boom and generate thousands of jobs. Among the 200,000 local demand in the construction industry, only 80,000 is filled, with a shortage of 120,000 skilled workers. Although the private sector is the main driver of job generation, DOLE is mandated to expand the economy’s capacity to produce goods and services to keep a steady labor force. “This is everyone’s business,” Bello said. OFWs worldwide has reached around 2.2 million, most of them deployed in the Middle East. The United Arab Emirates follows Saudi Arabia as the top two destination for OFWs. They are out there, abused, maltreated, their family back home longing for them, lacking guidance and affection of their parents. They had been sacrificing a lot just to give their family the best things they can possible give. If the Duterte government will succeed in bringing them home, it will be the happiest day for OFW families. Source: The Manila Times Advertisement Read More: ©2017 THOUGHTSKOTO

Filipina in Death Row in UAE Will Not Be Executed Says Labor Chief

(Watch: Embassy clears speculations over OFW Jennifer Dalquez convicted of murder in UAE)

A family of one Filipina in a death row in the United Arab Emirates can breathe a sigh of relief after Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III said that she will be spared from execution.

Bello confirmed that Jennifer Dalquez, 29 years old from General Santos City and an Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW) who is currently on death row in Abu Dhabi will no longer be executed.

In a press conference in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, Bello said he was invited by five ambassadors after he said that he will ban the deployment of household service workers to the Middle East if another OFW gets executed.

The assurance given from the ambassadors will benefit the case of Dalquez.

In the statement of the Philippine Embassy in Abu Dhabi, it said that Dalquez hearing scheduled on April 12 has been moved to April 26, 2017.

In the last hearing, the OFW was present but the two sons of the accused did not attend the proceedings.

Accordingly, the sons did not attend the hearing because Dalquez has already admitted to killing their father.

But the court reiterated that the sons need to appear in court and swear in the name of Allah, 25 times, that Dalquez is the person who killed their father.

Failing this, the court will ask Dalquez in the next hearing, to swear in the name of Allah, 50 times, that she did not intentionally kill the alleged victim.

Dalquez was jailed in 2014 for killing her Arab employer who allegedly tried to rape her.

If remembered, families of Dalques appeal to President Duterte for help to save Jennifer.

Base on DFA record, there are 71 Filipino in death row after convicted with finality.
