Man Nabbed For "Sextortion" Of An OFW

Extortion and video or photo voyeurism is a serious crime and our overseas Filipino workers (OFW) are vulnerable to such crimes. A number of cases where female OFWs was lured to send nude photos or videos to their boyfriend whom they only knew online and later the latter will eventually ask for money in agreement that he will not upload the said videos or photos online.

The suspect asked the OFW to give him Php50,000 for the agreement that he will not upload the OFW's nude photos online. National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) operatives set up an entrapment operation in response to the complaint of OFW "Rhia", (real name withheld) in a restaurant and waited for the suspect Dexter Caminos. After Rhia handed the money to Caminos, the NBI Cybercrime Division operatives moved quickly putting the suspect under arrest. The suspect admitted that they were having a quarrel and that he receives allowances from the OFW. He also denied that he was blackmailing the OFW. The suspect also said that it was not extortion and the money is for their business. Rhia said that she was forced to take an emergency leave from her work in the UAE to file a complaint to the Philippine authorities. She also said that he already gave Php40,000 to he suspect due to his threats. He was telling her that he will send the nude photos to her family and to her churchmates if she will not hand him the money. The victim believes that she was not the only victim since the suspect was also an OFW. It is the largest population of Filipinos in the UAE, followed by Abu Dhabi and Al Ain. OFWs in the UAE sent over US$500 million in remittances to the Philippines. The UAE is home to over 200 nationalities. Emirati population is only about 20% of the total population. To address illegal residency issues, the UAE government is giving amnesty to the expatriates, giving them a chance to correct their residency status before the anticipated crackdown on illegal residents. The amnesty 3-month amnesty period will begin on August 1 until October 31 this year. Embassies and various consulates representing the expatriates are also expected to coordinate with its nationals during the amnesty period. A man was arrested for extorting money from her OFW girlfriend.
The suspect asked the OFW to give him Php50,000 for the agreement that he will not upload the OFW's nude photos online.

 National Bureau of Investigation (NBI)  operatives set up an entrapment operation in response to the complaint of OFW "Rhia", (real name withheld) in a restaurant and waited for the suspect Dexter Caminos.
