Abused OFWs Plead For Help Using Social Media



Social media is not only used to kill boredom and amuse OFWs. Oftentimes, it also serves as an outlet to inform everyone about what is happening around them. It can also be called alternative media. By using social media platforms available, we can spread updates about what is happening on the side of the world where we are at. It can also be a medium for some abused OFWs who seek help. A number of OFWs who has been abused and pleaded for help in social media most likely found it and has now came home safe. Here are some OFWs on their difficult situation who seek the help of social media, with high hopes that they will somehow get the help they needed. Roseann Sinoy, an OFW from Riyadh, Saudi Arabia pleaded on social media for help. All she wants is to go home. Rose Ann also cried out for Raffy Tulfo’s radio program for help. In some instances, concerned netizens record videos of OFWs in distress and upload them on social media. hoping that somebody can finally do something and extend help. Just like in the case of an OFW who was doing his routine biking when he accidentally met an OFW who was being abused by her employer. The household service worker ran away from her employer because she was suffering from physical abuse. Although the uploader has no knowledge on what happened to the OFW after their meeting, he already passed the information to the netizens. The video has over 67,000 shares. With growing cases of OFW abuses especially to the women who work as household workers, netizens suggest the ban of sending Filipina HSWs in the Middle East.
