We know a lot of stories of maltreatment and abuses of our OFWs especially the household service workers in the Middle East, particularly in Saudi Arabia and Kuwait. HSWs who got raped, burned, beaten, and other sort of physical abuse.
Some of them were lucky to be back in the Philippines in one piece. Some of them went home lifeless and their families cannot do anything but to grieve.

Although worse situations happen to our fellow OFWs in the hands of most Middle Eastern employers, it is always best that we do not generalize. We seldom hear employers on that side of the world treating their workers right but there will always be an exemption.
Racma Motalib Ibrahim, hailed from Columbio, Sultan Kudarat, can testify about this. She was working with a Kuwaiti family for 12 years and she never felt any discrimination or maltreatment. She has been like a member of the family to her employers.

Not only for Racma, but to the other Filipina HSW who is living with them. Their employer does not in any way treat them like slaves like other employers do but they treat them like friends or moreso, a part of their family.
This is a living proof that the employer and employee can live in harmony if they will set their differences aside and regard each other with love.We may be different in nationality in culture but we are both humans. As her female employer said: "I like to treat people how I like people to treat me."

We just hope and pray that every employer should treat their household workers right, knowing that the OFWs sacrificed a lot just by leaving their kids behind just to assure the best future they could possibly give to them.
