Israel to Hire 1,000 Filipino Hotel Workers





Another good news to Filipinos who want to work abroad. Israel will now be allowed 1,000 Filipinos to work in the country's hotel industry! This is the effect of the agreement signed by Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Secretary Silvestre Bello III and his Israeli counterpart, Tourism Minister Yariv Levin last December 10. Aside from the generation of 1,000 hotel jobs, the signed agreement will also benefit the Filipino caregivers in Israel. It said that exploitative placement fees that are being charged to Filipino workers would be reduced if not eliminated. According to Levin the arrival of 1,000 Filipino workers in Israel is a big help in the current and severe staff shortage that affecting Israeli hotel industry inspire of tourism growth. He said that the primary problem of the tourism industry right now is the labor shortage. And with the agreement, he signed with the Philippines, the quota of foreign workers especially Filipinos in their hotel industry will increase. Levin hopes that this thing will solve labor shortage both in housekeeping and cleaning. Base on the data of Tourism Ministry there are 1, 550 vacant cleaning position in the country while jobs that require training including cooks and waiters has 1,600 unfilled positions. Levin said the industry has experienced difficulty in recruiting Israeli workers, regardless of wages. For his part, DOLE Chief said that this agreement is a welcome cooperation between the Philippines and Israel and that he is certain that additional agreements will push through. Bello explains that workers that will arrive in Israel will be English speakers and have completed a professional training program sponsored by the Filipino government. They will be employed directly by Israeli hotels and not through contractors. The additional workers will be deployed to the following regions; Dead Sea Tel Aviv and Central Regions Jerusalem and Northern Israel As of now there are around 28,000 Filipino living or working in Israel mainly as caregivers. As of now, the following are jobs orders from Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) to Israel!

Planning to Work as Housekeeper in Japan? Watch This!


Housekeeping in Japan is a dream job of many Filipinos. Working with a monthly salary as much as P70,000 is good enough for Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) to provide the needs and even the wants of families back home. But aspiring housekeepers in Japan needs a long process of application and training before being qualified for the job. This year, not more than 100 Filipino housekeepers are being deployed in Japan as part of first foreign housekeepers to be hired under a government policy.

 Housekeeping in Japan is a dream job of many Filipinos. Working with a monthly salary as much as P70,000 is good enough for Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) to provide the needs and even the wants of families back home.

But aspiring housekeepers in Japan needs a long process of application and training before being qualified for the job.

This year, not more than 100 Filipino housekeepers are being deployed in Japan as part of first foreign housekeepers to be hired under a government policy.


The policy aims to help Japanese professional women to enter the workforce after having children.

The deployment of Filipino Housekeeper in Japan starts in Kanagawa Prefecture and in the City of Osaka but the Japanese government eventually wants to expand the program nationwide.

Last February, there are about 50 Filipino housekeepers are expected to arrive in Japan to undergo training before being dispatched to clients.

Previously, only certain households, such as those of foreign diplomats, were allowed to employ foreign housekeepers. But in 2015 the Abe administration pushed to deregulate the market in a bid to increase participation by Japanese women in the workforce.

The legal change, which is also aimed at easing labor shortages in the housekeeping industry, paved the way for non-Japanese to work as domestic help in some designated areas, including Kanagawa and Osaka.

Duskin, a major cleaning company sent four of the housekeepers to Kanagawa, four to Osaka while the Pasona staffing firm dispatched 25 to Kanagawa.
Bears, a housekeeping service provider, dispatched eight housekeepers in two areas, while Poppin which offers child care, educational support services, and nursing care, sent five to Kanagawa.

Under the program housekeepers will do works limited to;
  • Cooking 
  • Laundry 
  • Cleaning 
  • Shopping 
  • Child Care 
The workers will not be allowed to engage in nursing care.

Qualification of prospective housekeepers;
  • At least 18-years old 
  • At least one year of work experience in housekeeping services 
  • Possess basic Japanese-language skills 
  • Must undergo training for at least 200 hours. 
Those who are hired as housekeepers can stay in Japan for a maximum of three years.

WATCH: The Filipino Housekeepers Now Working in Japan; More to be Hired






Twenty-five Filipinas are now working as housekeepers in Japan.

They are the first group of housekeepers that arrived in Japan last March 19 after restriction on housekeeping services provided by foreign workers were lifted in "national strategic special zones."

These OFWs went through a two-and-a-half-month training program in the Philippines before coming to Japan.

The training was held at a facility that made to look like a Japanese house where they learned Japanese and Japanese home-cooked dishes such as miso soup.

They are now working in Kanagawa Prefecture after completing another two-week training stint.

Under revised National Strategic Special Zones Act in 2015, foreign housekeepers are allowed in Japan that aims to

1. Reduce the burden of household chores

2. To promote Japanese women's engagement in the economic activity.


Restrictions were lifted first in Tokyo, Kanagawa Prefecture and the city of Osaka, and six agencies including Duskin Co. and Bears Co. have been given permission to operate foreign housekeeper services.

Since live-in housekeepers are not allowed, service operators are required to prepare to house for the foreign workers.

This is due to concerns over possible violations of the housekeepers' human rights when working behind closed doors.

Staffing Agency Giant Pasona Inc. is the one behind the first group of Pinay Housekeepers that arrived in Japan said, they created a guidebook for the foreign workers on life in Japan. 

 The book includes contact information for public organizations where they can consult with professionals if they encounter any problems.

According to Makiko Sawafuji of Pasona, the company is taking extra care of its foreign workers, so that they will feel they have made the right decision by coming to work in Japan.

The agency plans to hire about 1,000 Filipinos in the next three years.
