LTO AND SSS TOP HOTLINE 8888 COMPLAINTS FOR THE SLOWEST DEPARTMENT MANAGEMENT;

12 YEARS JAIL TERM FOR PRANK CALLERS

Since the launching of the Emergency 911 and Citizens Hotline 8888,last August 1,2016 as ordered by President Rodrigo Duterte, the hotline numbers received numerous calls coming from concerned and grieving citizen as well as calls from prank callers. Non-emergency 911 calls received a warning. This emergency management system should not be taken as a joke since they are to save lives.

On Hotline 8888, in particular,citizens complaints about the Social Security System is at the top spot followed by the Land Transportation Office.

For SSS, most of the complaints regarding the delays in releasing SSS IDs and the snail-paced processing of pension of the retired members flooded the hotline.While the long delay for releasing the new vehicle plate numbers makes the line smoking for LTO from the dismayed and dissatisfied callers.

Despite of the growing number of complaints,Civil Service Commission Chairwoman Alicia Dela Rosa-Bala said that the 8888 hotline proves to be serving its purpose.

Hotline 8888 is currently operating with 25 call center agents covering the 24 hours operation.While the Emergency 911 has 30 call center agents.

Meanwhile,Muntinlupa Rep. Ruffy Biazon authored the House Bill 2323 or the "Anti-frank Caller Act" that penalizes prank calling to be able to relay the need for emergency services to the proper responders on time.
911 Emergency Number, this emergency services is for emergency management, as well as natural disasters. This should not be taken lightly as the response unit is for saving lives.
The penalty for the first offense shall be 1-30 days of imprisonment and Php5,000 fine.
For the second offense,1-6 months imprisonment and Php 15,000 fine.
For the third offense,6months to 6 years of imprisonment and Php30,000 fine and
for the fourth and succeeding offenses, it shall be Php 50,000 fine and 6-12 years in jail.

Rep. Biazon also mentioned that out of 2,475 calls received by the government in the first seven hours from the beginning of the operation,only 75 came from legitimate callers;1,119 are dropped calls and 304 of which came from prank callers. This emergency services is for savings lives, non emergency 911 calls, or prank calls is a form of abuse so we should put restrictions and sanctions to those who play with it.

911: The Day that Changed America

I can still vividly recall at 10:00PM in my Manila, Philippines apartment that day, 11 September, 2001, I just arrived from a long work travel and tune in directly to CNN International. I saw the North tower burning, and immediately awaken my cousin Bimbo and my sister Mai. We were horrified, as we gasped loud together seeing the other plane slammed the South tower.

We were hundred thousands of miles away, but we feel so sad, so terribly shocked that something will happen like that in America. It was not in our wildest dreams.

We remember those people, who perish from all walks of life, and from different countries of the world. This photos was taken from the 911 Memorial Museum.
