With the recommendation read by Senator Manny Pacquiao as chairman on Committee on Environment and Natural Resources, the appointment of Gina Lopez has been rejected by the Commission on appointments today, May 3, 2017.
With 13 votes opposing the confirmation, Gina Lopez has been denied to occupy the position as DENR Secretary.
Pacquiao said that the decision does not go according to his personal preference but the decision of the majority shall prevail.
Senate Majority Leader Vicente 'Tito" Sotto III, Sen. Loren Legarda and members of the Liberal Party (LP) in the commission led by Senator Francis Pangilinan, manifested and said they voted in favor of the appointment of Lopez for the record.
Of the 25-member body, eight voted to confirm Lopez’s ad interim appointment:
