OFW FOUND DEAD IN DUBAI; OTHER OFW, AWAKENS FROM 9 MONTHS OF BEING IN COMA

An OFW in Dubai, UAE has been awakened after 9 months of being in coma. Perlie almonte, 35 has been brought first to Al Rashid Hospital for treatment last April 18, 2015 after she was found unconscious in the bathroom of her house. The head of Critical Care Department at Rashid Hospital Dr Zeyad Al Rais, said that Almonte fell into a coma because of intracerebral haemorrhage, a life-threatening type of stroke caused by bleeding within the brain tissue. “Perlite underwent a surgical intervention to drain the blood. Due to the critical location of the bleeding, the respiratory and hemodynamic functions were affected, and she was kept on a ventilator for more than two weeks, hence the decision was taken to perform tracheostomy, which helped her to gradually be weaned off the mechanical ventilation. We also started early physiotherapy to enhance her muscular power, while she was in coma,”Dr Al rais said. Almonte, working a supervisor in a courier company before the accident happened, has nothing but gratitude to Dr Al Rais and his team of specialists, nurses and respiratory therapists, for the care they have shown during her stay at the hospital. “I have spent over a year and nine months at Rashid Hospital, I now consider the doctors and nurses at the hospital my family. I am truly thankful for the treatment I have received at Rashid Hospital. I am glad that I am recovering and I can’t wait to go to the Philippines to see my children,” Almonte said. "Now, after nine months on being comatose on ventilator with tracheotomy tube, I am happy to say that the patient is fully conscious ... and to see her sitting in the hospital bed, holding her phone, chatting with her family, and beside her is a bag of snacks, Al Rais said. According to Dr Al Rais, Rashid Hospital is one of the most equipped and specialized critical care departments in the UAE, with a high success rate in treating cases similar to Almonte's. Almonte is expected to be flying home before the end of February. Meanwhile, another OFW in Sonapur, Dubai, UAE has been found dead inside his flat. "G.L." a gas station employee, allegedly hanged himself in a ceiling fan using a leather belt and his necktie. The investigators ruled out foul play and said that the OFW committed suicide. His friends are saying that he was a good basketball player, a bodybuilder and even throw jokes at his friends at times. His mother is also an OFW in Australia. The OFW took his day-off on Sunday and is supposed to come for a graveyard duty the next day but he was already found dead at his flat. People close to him said that he had a conversation on the phone with his wife on Sunday evening. They overheard that he was having a severe headache and that he intended to kill himself. "We carried out an investigation to find out the cause of death. People close to the man said he had some problems and they believed he committed suicide. The body has been taken to the forensic department and will be handed over to relatives after legal procedures," the police said. He has a relative who lives in Dubai and is waiting to repatriate his remains.
