The Department of Trade and Industry reminds everyone who are sending balikbayan boxes in the Phillipines especially this holiday season,to make sure that you are dealing with DTI accredited and licensed freight forwarder be it a sea or air cargo.

Aileen Faller has a bad experience regarding a certain freight forwarder.Her mother,an OFW from New York, sent a balikbayan box to her but it has been delivered to the wrong recipient,has been opened and lost some of the items.However,the cargo company and Aileen agreed to settle the issue and the forwarder paid Aileen the amount of Php10,000 instead.
According to DTI, a total of 57 cases of undelivered box and 1 missing package has been recorded since January of this year.
DTI warned the public to be wary of freight forwarding companies who are offering lower cargo rates.They also encourage the public to check if the cargo forwarder or consolidator are accredited by DTI by checking on their website.DTI also reminded the OFWs to refrain from sending prohibited items like legal tenders,guns and ammunitions,illegal drugs,pornographic materials,pirated dvd's,plants and seeds,any items in commercial quantities,fresh food products.

P7.5 MILLION WORTH OF PARTY DRUGS HIDDEN INSIDE TOY BOXES,DISCOVERED BY BUREAU OF CUSTOMS
The Bureau of Customs together with PDEA discovered a shipment of illegal party drugs and amphetamine worth P7.5 Million at the Manila Central Post Office.The package that originated from the Netherlands appears to be ordinary toy boxes but concealed inside the boxes are thousands of ecstacy pills and amphetamine,a substance used in making illegal drugs.The parcel is consigned to a certain Don Arnold addressed to a certain Martin Domingo as recipient.A manhunt has been set by the authorities to locate them.
Customs Commissioner Faeldon is appealing to the public and to the OFWs to bear with the bureau as they will again implement tight checking and monitoring of every balikbayan boxes.
"In spite of ongoing massive operations in stopping it,they are continuously taking this very,very high risk in bringing these drugs to the country," Faeldon said.
