LIBRENG SKILLS TRAINING SA MGA BARANGAY PARA SA MGA BUMABALIK NA OFW AT MGA SUMUKONG DRUG DEPENDENTS MULA SA TESDA SA UTOS NI PANGULONG DUTERTE.TESDA will conduct free training for surrendering drug dependents through a barangay-based scholarship program. This is in response to President Rodrigo Duterte's directive to give rehabilitation and special skills training to thousands of surrendered drug dependents to prevent them from going back to their bad habit of doing drugs especially those who are residing in poor barangays. According to TESDA Director General Guiling Mamondiong, they already coordinated with the barangay officials to submit the list of drug dependents. PNP data shows that surrendering drug dependents reached to over 700,000 but the government is expecting it to turn out up to 1.2 million.TESDA also plan to bring the funds directly to the barangays to benefit the poor and not only those who are connected to some politicians. In the old scholarship system, the schools will choose the scholars according to the recommendation of the mayor, the governor or other local officials. advertisement However,TESDA records show that among 29 million scholars, only 28 million completed the program,8 million have undergone assessment and actually got their jobs. advertisement In related news,TESDA might close some programs of around 400 accredited training centers for non-compliance to the agencies standards.TESDA Director General Guiling Mamondiong, says that the auditing process is now underway to make sure that TESDA guidelines are being followed by all accredited institutions. There are around 42,000 barangays in the Philippines and TESDA has a target of at least 200 scholars per barangay. The courses offered in the program includes welding, construction and automotive. Mamondiong also mentioned that the scholarship program can be availed by returning OFWs who would want to enroll to their program as well especially those who recently came from the Middle East. TESDA will asses what other skills they need to get them back on the work force. Drug dependents should complete the rehabilitation program first before they can be accepted in skills training. "You cannot offer skills training to those who have not tried rehabilitation. They need to be rehabilitated first," Mamondiong said.
