WARNING TO HONG KONG OFWS: A FILIPINA HSW FIRED BY EMPLOYER OVER MULTI-LEVEL MARKETING

Let this story serve as a warning to the OFWs working in Hong Kong to refrain from any activities to seek extra money, moreso being involved in a multi-level marketing scheme or networking.

A household service worker, in her 40's, and an Ilocana, has been fired by her employer after the employer found out that the HSW is trying to get recruits for the Multi-level Marketing Company.
The HSW has been reported by the employer to the Hong Kong Immigration Department. They investigated her for possible breach of work contract and has been deported back to the Philippines after few days of staying in the shelter.

The employer said that they do not want to have any involvement in any problems that may arise because of the HSWs recruitment activities.

The authorities said that the HSW stayed for only almost a year on her employer and that is her first job contract in Hong Kong.

20 Filipino domestic helpers has been victimized by a spurious investment scheme, Emgoldex.

Nearly 500 Filipinos in Hong Kong as well as their relatives in the Philippines allegedly invested at least P36,000 each in the scheme.

Recruiters promised return of investments between P180,000 and P360,000 but later discovered that their money has vanished in thin air. However, the Philippines’ Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) eventually sued Emgoldex, Global Intergold, and Prosperous Infinite Philippines Holdings Corp. for selling securities without a license.

LABATT WARNS OFWS IN HONGKONG AGAINST OFFERS FROM ONLINE SELLERS

Hongkong Labor Attaché Jalilo de la Torre has issued a warning to the OFWs in Hongkong against an ad that is making rounds in the social media site,Facebook enticing people to sell products online for extra income.He advised the OFWs based in Hongkong to ignore such invitations as it is illegal for a foreign household service worker to do so in the territory.

Dela Torre also warned the person whom posted the video that he would report her to the concerned agencies in Manila such as POEA and DTI.
The post invites readers to become entrepreneurs by viewing the videos, which entice viewers to sign up with the promoter as seller of various cosmetic and health products through networking with as little capitalization as P500.
The promotion was posted on Aug. 26 on De la Torre’s FB wall. As of Sept. 2, the unwanted post already had nearly 4,000 viewers on De la Torre’s page, but had been blocked since.
As with similar other consumer product networking campaign, whether legitimate or scams, the promotion plays on the common dream of OFWs to work and earn big money at home without having to leave their loved ones.

Two OFWs were arrested by the Immigration officers last year and charged with selling unsafe products and immigration offenses for selling skin whitening facial cream on FB.
