President Rodrigo Duterte was furious about the latest report of death of a Filipino woman who was found inside a freezer in an abandoned flat in Kuwait, saying he is ready to take “drastic measures” to prevent further loss of lives among overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) in Kuwait and other Gulf nations.
In a press conference in Davao, President Duterte said that Filipinos are not slave to anyone.
Out of his genuine concern for the Overses filipino Workers (OFWs), Duterte could not hold back his anger after reading the news about the death of Joanna Daniela Demafelis.
Duterte again reiterated that he does not want any quarrel with the Arab nations, but he appeal that the governments of these countries to ensure that OFWs in the Middle East are treated right.
“What are you doing to my countrymen? And if I were to do it to your citizens here, would you be happy?” Duterte asked.
“Is there something wrong with your culture? Is there something wrong with the values?”
President Duterte said that he must do something to stop the inhumane treatment to the OFWs, saying that it is useless to be in the position as president if he cannot do anything about it.
The deployment ban of OFWs to Kuwait enforced last month stays indefinitely.

President Duterte also directed Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III to repatriate every Filipinos in Kuwait who wants to go home in 72 hours. He said that he will ask the help of the airline companies in the Philippines for the transportation.
The President recently met with Kuwait Ambassador to the Philippines Saleh Ahmad Althwaikh and was invited to visit the Gulf state.
