'Ugly, Rich' Spouses Should Be Protected by A Law — Speaker Alvarez

Remember the bill that promises to easily resolve unhappy marriages last year? It was being proposed by House Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez. The bill becomes trending in social media and receives backlash from religious and other groups.     Unshaken by the criticism, the House Speaker is here again and proposing another bill that said to protect the rights of "ugly" spouses whose partners may have married them just for their wealth.

If you lack good looks but have enough money to attract partners, you will be protected under the bill that being proposed by Alvarez. He said the bill that legalized civil union also aims to protect the rights of even "ugly" spouses whose husband or wife might have married them only for their money or net worth. He called this as marriage for convenience.

  This is because under the bill the system of absolute community of property will be abolished. Under absolute community of property, spoused become co-owners of all their property including those acquired before marriage.

Under the civil union bill, the property of couples will stay separate even after the wedding ceremony. 

Last year, Alvarez is proposing a bill that will allow easy dissolution of marriage because annulment in the Philippines is expensive.
