When you apply for work in the Philippines and you are over 30 years old, some companies will no longer hire you because of the existing age limit. That's why some workers resort to going abroad to work. Now, it will be a thing of the past.
President Rodrigo Duterte directed DOLE to remove the age limit as a qualification in applying for a job.
Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III has signed the Department Order No. 170 prohibiting age discrimination in hiring employees.
The "anti-age discrimination act", if strictly implemented by the government may reduce the number of unemployment by giving opportunities to "over-aged" skilled workers in the country to practice their specialty and experience for the benefit of their own country. There will be no urgent need to seek jobs abroad and leave their families behind for the sake of a better job opportunities and income.
