Just like any other motor vehicles plying on the roads, electronic bicycles or e-bikes needs registration too.

This is the reminder of Land Transportation Office (LTO) to all owners of e-bikes who believes that it does not need registration.

LTO added, e-bikes drivers should have a driver's license before driving the said motor vehicle.

Earlier, in some parts of Metro Manila, LTO impounds e-bikes without registration.

Owners of the impound e-bikes need to register the unit before they can get it and need to pay P10,000 fines.

Do you have an e-bike or planning to buy one?

Here are the requirements you need to secure to register your vehicle;

1. Commercial invoice of the vehicles from the country of origin

2. Certificate of Payment from Bureau of Custom (BOC)

3. Certificate of Stock Reported (CSR)

4. Sales invoice of motor vehicle with sales evaluation from the regional office

5. PNP-TMG MV Clearance Certificate

6. A duly accomplished and approved Motor Vehicle Inspection Report (MVIR)

7. appropriate insurance certificate of cover

Here are the steps on how to register;

1. Complete the above mention documents.

2. Proceed to the transaction counters and submit all the required documents to the Evaluator for evaluation and computation of fees.

3. Actual inspection of motor vehicles with duly accomplished MVIR. (The form is available for download at the LTO website. You can accomplish this form prior to transacting your business at the LTO.)

4. Proceed to the cashier when your name is called for the necessary fees and obtain an Official Receipt (OR).

5. Proceed to the Releasing Counter when your name is called to obtain the Certificate of Registration (CR), plates, stickers, and other requested documents.

The LTO warned the public that they will continue to crack down electric bikes without registration.

“Hindi ka dapat nago-operate [ng e-bike] kung walang lisensya. Ang presumption, hindi mo alam kasi wala kang training…Ang registration, mandatory requirement iyan para sa insurance,” according to Francis Almora, director of the law enforcement service for the LTO.

The number of e-bikes on the road are increasing because it is often sold at a lower price compared to other motor vehicles.

Also, many e-bikes sellers claim that no registration needed for this kind of vehicles when you purchase it.

When it comes to purchasing an electric bike, one common concern is the financial aspect. Not everyone might have the upfront cash to buy an electric bike outright. This is where electric bike loans come into play, providing a convenient solution to make these energy-efficient vehicles more accessible.
