Normal Household Items that can be Deadly to Children

Kids and toddlers are playful in and around the house. Of course, parents and nannies always look after the small ones and try to keep a safe environment for them to play in. However, hidden dangers always lurk around the home. While many household items are considered safe, some common household stuff are actually dangerous or even fatal for children and infants. Parents and nannies should know more and learn these things in order to avoid possible accident.

1. Electric Sockets and Electrical devices. In their crawling and walking process, it’s really easy for small children to get near these dangers. While a socket cover can be used to prevent children from inserting objects in an electrical socket, this is not a fool-proof way to prevent accident. Some socket covers are even attracting children towards sockets due to their attractive designs or colors - as children mistake them for toys. Similarly, children often copy what adults do, including when we plug chargers or other electrical items into a socket. To prevent accident, install plain color socket covers. You can also tape over sockets that are not being used. Use a wide and clear scotch tape. Keep children's play area clean and keep very small items like paper clips out of their reach. This stops them from getting curious and inserting such into sockets. It also prevents accident number 3 on this list. 2. Small Items, Tools and Food From colorful buttons, batteries, paper clips, and even food like berries, nuts or candies - all of these are choking risks. Infants often put things in their mouths. They misunderstand that they’re food and swallow them. Keep them out of reach! 3. Medicine Kids mistake medicines for candies because they almost exactly look alike. They can’t distinguish them, and are not aware of their dangers either. Adults should put medicine out of children's reach. Kids medicine should also be separated from adult medications. 4. Mugs and Glass wares There are two dangers associated with pottery and glassware. The first is of course broken glass or pottery shards. Children are not used to these utensils, and they are not yet fully aware of the consequences of breaking glass wares - including the danger of getting cuts. The second danger is about heat. Mugs and glassware do not necessarily insulate from heat. Hot objects can cause burns in children. Children should only use plastic or metal cups, or adults should hold the cups for them until they are ready. Also, teach children the concept of hot by letting them experience the sensation gently. Reinforcement is good for them. 5. Kitchen wares From kettles to pans to the stove and oven, kids should not play and linger around the kitchen. Even when you have finished cooking dinner, the stove and pot is still hot for up to half an hour or more. Placing your pan where the handle is hanging out of the stove area is also dangerous since kids randomly grab things, and they could grab the handle and spill hot oil all over. The oven is especially dangerous since kids like paying hide and seek. We don't even need to mention knives and other sharp and pointy tools. Supervision is the key to safety. 6. Bath tubs, Fish Tank or any open Water Container Things that contain water are harmful to children to a certain degree. Children like playing, especially with water. Leaving them playing alone near such things is very dangerous. Kids may fall into one of these and drown. Even in situations where the water level is low, the potential threat cannot be underestimated. An infamous case of this happened to an OFW in Singapore in 1991. Flor Contemplacion was sentenced to death for the alleged murder of fellow OFW Delia Maga and her 4-year old ward. It is believed though that the child died from accidental drowning in a pail of water, and the father killed Maga out of anger. The blame was put to Contemplacion. 7. Window blind cords and Plastic bags Nearly 17,000 young children were hurt by window blinds between 1990 and 2015. While most injuries were minor, almost 300 died have died. Most deaths occur when children became entangled or strangled by the cords. Plastic bags cause similar fatal accidents due to suffocation. 8. Shelves and Cabinets Kids like climbing. Book shelves, closets, TV stands and display cabinets are their favorite to climb because it’s easy to get to them and they usually have handles and layers that look like steps on a ladder. However, without a firm base, these shelves can easily fall, hurting the playful kids. In order for their safety, parents should keep these shelves stable and firm in the base so that they can’t fall easily. Taller cabinets can also be mounted on the wall using brackets.

Most deaths occur when children became entangled or strangled by the cords. Plastic bags cause similar fatal accidents due to suffocation. The problem in these situation is that the children in danger cannot make noise or cry while suffocating or getting strangled, making this situation even more dangerous.

12 Yea-Old Girl in Quezon City Suffer Encephalitis after Measles and Tetanus Vaccine

A 12 yea-old girl from Quezon city suffered encephalitis after getting vaccine for measles and tetanus a week before.

The parents said their daughter was very healthy prior to getting the vaccine.

The Department of Health said a viral infection caused the encephalitis. But the vaccine might not be the real cause of encephalitis because it has been certified by World Health Organization.

However the CDC or Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has published information that:
"Measles inclusion body encephalitis, or severe brain swelling caused by the measles virus, is a complication of getting infected with the wild-type measles virus.  While rare, this disorder almost always happens in patients with weakened immune systems. The illness usually develops within 1 year after initial measles infection and has a high death rate. There have been three published reports of this complication happening to vaccinated people. In these cases, encephalitis developed between 4 and 9 months after MMR vaccination. In one case, the measles vaccine strain was identified as the cause."

Duterte: DEATH PENALTY IS NEEDED

Mayor Rodrigo Duterte of Davao respond to a question about Death Penalty. This video posted by Dr. Richard Mata has gained almost 9,000 shares in the social media, Facebook.
This is the incomplete transcript of what he said. Watch the video below to view the full detail of the quick interview last August 25.

"Matagal ko ng sinasabi yan, when I was a congressman...ako pa man din, ayaw ko. Sabi ko marami pa tayong patayin, huwag mong pigilan ang batas. Tapos it was not passed during our time, 11th congress, kami yung congress na nag-impeach ni Estrada. It was at that time na gusto nila i-lift ang death Penalty. Ayaw ko. Ayaw namin.

This shows how popular and how in line Mayor Duterte is to the sentiment of the people especially with the current wave of crimes and rapes, and death in the Philippines.

I admire the Mayor of Davao. I know it is not possible, but I know he can do something to lessen the crime in politics in the Philippines if ever he become president of the Philippines. Together with Miriam, they will truly be a perfect tandem.

Wherever You Are Now...

I warn you, malungkot tong post ko na ito.
But if you're a mother and you have a mother, read on.

I vividly remember the memories, even it happened 17 years ago.
I was sitting in a rocking chair that she used to sit and sing lullabies for us.
I was waiting for my 3 siblings to arrive from school.
I was waiting for them to hear the saddest news I have ever conveyed to three young kids, ages 15, 12 and 7.

"She's gone. She's gone now."

After 10 years that I was gone, travelling from different places and different countries,
nakauwi din ako. Me and my wife scheduled a time na bisitahin ang malamig and napakalungkot na lugar where my Mom was buried.

My cute and kikay sister painted Mom's tomb with color "Yellow" saying she was touched by the death of Cory and the yellow color that the late president and heroine will be always remembered. So don't wonder if it's colored yellow. :)

Our Mom is also our hero, infact, more than a hero, she is the best mother in this world...for us, her sons and daughter.

I was crying when we get there, and my loving wife hugged me and tapped me at the back. I cannot contain the heaviness that I was feeling deep within my heart, and the disappointments over the many dreams I have for her that was not realize. And oh, the happiness and joy we are experiencing now, and wished she too would have experience the same.

I cannot deny that my mind and my heart was still feeling hurt with what happened nearly 18 years ago, despite of the assurances that we will be together again one day, because I have just simple, and oh, it was only a simple dream for my mother, and I couldn't realize them now.

I just want her to have a little comfort in life, go shop to the malls and buy her favorite dress or shoe, dine out with her with my small family, cook her favorite foods with the comfort of technologies and appliances, and have her attend to her garden and orchids in the front yard.

Just that. Just that.

Today is her birthday, she is 58th years old now.

Happy happy Birthday!

Wherever you are, I terribly miss you, Mom. And I know you are happier now, but I am still hoping some many many years to come, we will be able to shop, dine, and play at your garden...

there....

in Heaven.
