DOST Scholarship for Senior High School and College for SY 2018-2019




There are many scholarships available for our students in the Philippines. Aside from OWWA who gives a scholarship to beneficiaries of OFWs, there is scholarship also from Commission on Higher Education (CHED) and now, here is a scholarship from Department of Science and Technology (DOST) for undergraduates and college students.  DOST has three types of scholarship under Junior Level Science Scholarship (JLSS). This scholarship is intended for 3rd Year College.

DOST has three types of scholarship under Junior Level Science Scholarship (JLSS). This scholarship is intended for 3rd Year College.

Deadline for filing is September 22, 2017, and the date of examination is on November 19, 2017.

1. Scholarship Program under Republic Act No. 10612

This scholarship aims to strengthen the science and technology education in the country by fast-tracking graduates in the sciences, mathematics, and engineering who shall teach science and mathematics in secondary schools throughout the country.

Who are eligible to apply?

  • Natural-born Filipino citizen
  • An incoming regular 3rd-year college student in an identified priority S&T Courses for the school year 2017-2018.
  • Have a General Weighted Average (GWA) of at least 83% or its equivalent
  • Good moral character, good health
  • Qualifier of the 2017 JLSS Examination

What are the privileges of the scholars?
  • Tuition and other school fees
  • Book Allowance
  • Monthly Living Allowance
  • Transportation Allowance
  • Group Accident Insurance
  • MS/PE Uniform Allowance
  • Post Graduation Clothing Allowance
A scholar under Republic Act 10612 may choose to enroll at any State Universities and Colleges (SCUs) or other private universities or colleges that are with CHED compliant programs.



2.Republic Act 7687 o Science and Technology Scholarship Program

Also known as the Science and Technology Scholarship Act of 1994, provides for scholarships to talented and deserving students whose family’s’ socioeconomic status do not exceed the set cut-off values of certain indicators. Qualifiers must pursue priority fields of study in the basic sciences, engineering, other applied sciences, and science and mathematics teaching.


Who are eligible to apply?
  • Natural-born Filipino citizen
  • A poor, talented, and deserving student who belongs to a family whose socio-economic status does not exceed the set cut-off values of certain indicators.
  • An incoming regular 3rd-year college student in an identified priority S&T Courses for the school year 2017-2018.
  • Have a General Weighted Average (GWA) of at least 83% or its equivalent
  • Resident of the municipality for the last four years as attested by the barangay
  • Good moral character, and good health
  • Qualifier of the 2017 JLSS Examination

A scholar under Republic Act 7687 may choose to enroll at any State Universities and Colleges (SCUs), CHED identified centers of Excellence (COE) or Centers of Development (COD) for the priority S&T Courses or Institutions with FAAP Level III Accreditation.

3. DOST-SEI Merit Scholarship Program

Formerly known as the NSDB or NSTA Scholarship, began in 1958. Merit scholars pursue priority courses in the basic sciences, engineering, other applied sciences, and science and mathematics teaching at identified universities. This will be awarded to students with high aptitude in science and mathematics and are willing to pursue careers in the field of science and technology.

Who are eligible?
  • Natural-born Filipino citizen
  • An incoming regular 3rd-year college student in an identified priority S&T Courses for the school year 2017-2018.
  • Have a General Weighted Average (GWA) of at least 83% or its equivalent
  • Good moral character
  • Must have a good health
  • Qualifier of the 2017 JLSS Examination
What are the privileges?

  • Monthly Living Allowance
  • Transportation Allowance
  • Group Accident Insurance
  • MS/PE Uniform Allowance

A MERIT scholar may choose to enroll at any State Universities and Colleges (SCUs), CHED identified centers of Excellence (COE) or Centers of Development (COD) for the priority S&T Courses or Institutions with FAAP Level III Accreditation.

Aside from Junior Level Science Scholarship (JLSS), DOST has a scholarship also for undergraduates, particularly for Grade 12 students - The Science and Technology Undergraduate Scholarships that comes into two types;

1. Science and Technology Scholarship under Republic Act 7687. 

This is awarded to poor, talented, and deserving students who belong to families whose socio-economic status does not exceed the set values of certain indications.Criteria of Eligibility
  • Natural-born Filipino Citizen
  • A poor, talented and deserving student who belong to families whose socio-economic status does not exceed the set values of certain indications
  • Member of top 5% of the senior high school, NON-STEM Strand graduating class, or
  • Member of the senior high school STEM Strand graduating class
  • Resident of the municipality of the last four years as attested by the barangay captain
  • Good Moral, character, and good health
  • Qualifier of the 2018 S&T Scholarship Examination

2. Merit 
This scholarship is awarded to students with high aptitude in science and mathematics and are willing to pursue careers in the field of science and technology.

Criteria of Eligibility

  • Natural born-Filipino citizen
  • Member of the top 5% of the NON-STEM Strand Senior High School graduating class, or 
  • Member of the senior high school STEM Strand graduating class
  • Good Moral, character, and good health
  • Qualifier of the 2018 S&T Scholarship Examination
