2 POEA Officials Fired Over OEC Corruption, Illegal Recruitment


In the height of investigation against corrupt officials who are allegedly involved in illegal activities which prompted DOLE to suspend the issuance of Overseas Employment Certificates (OEC) for new applicants and direct hires, two POEA officials has been removed from their posts after being involved in illegal processing of OEC and illegal recruitment. According to Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), aside from revamp, they already fired two officials who's names were not disclosed. DOLE Usec. In spite of the existing suspension, the long queues of applicants in recruitment agencies are still on. DOLE said that they will lift the suspension once they are through with the investigation. The DOLE order also states that the suspension could also be extended depending on the progress of the investigation. DOLE expects that the investigation to be completed on December 1. The suspension of issuance of OEC will be lifted as soon as it is done. Initial estimate of the POEA shows that there are about 5,000 new OEC applications everyday and it is expected that the number of OFWs who will be affected by the suspension will be around 75,000 during the 15-day suspension. In the height of investigation against corrupt POEA officials who are allegedly involved in illegal activities which prompted DOLE to suspend the issuance of Overseas Employment Certificates (OEC) for new applicants and direct hires, two POEA officials has been removed from their posts after being involved in illegal processing of OEC and illegal recruitment.

According to  Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), aside from revamp, they already fired two officials who's names were not disclosed.

DOLE Usec. Dominador say said that depending on the extent of their liability, the officials will face either administrative or criminal charges which will surely go down to removal from service.

The purge doesn't go only with high ranking officials of the POEA. All security guards and janitors will be replaced for their alleged involvement in illegal recruitment.

The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) on Tuesday said around 40 security guards and 40 janitors of the POEA act as bagmen and messengers in illegal recruitment schemes.

Meanwhile, the suspension of issuance of OEC's is still in effect due to reports that some POEA officials are conspiring with illegal recruiters and collect large sum of money amounting up to P250,000 from their fraudulent undertakings.

OEC To Be Abolished- Will Be Replaced By OFW ID

For years the Balik Mangagawa Certificate or OEC has been the portal paper for all the Overseas Filipino workers to pass the immigration. Now after the waiting for it to be abolished, it is almost in the hands of our Bagong Bayani the ease it will cause to them.


For years the Balik Mangagawa Certificate or OEC has been the portal paper for all the Overseas Filipino workers to pass the immigration. Now after the waiting for it to be abolished, it is almost in the hands of our Bagong Bayani the ease it will cause to them. Department of Labor and Employement Secretary Bello confirms that there will be no OEC to to be furnished by the OFWs to complete the process and pass the immigration. The OFW ID will soon to start its fabrication this August 2017. Instead the OFW ID or I- DOLE will replace the said document. Lifting of the suspension for the Direct hire was announced by the Secretary. Where can we use the OFW ID or I-DOLE Where can we use the OFW ID or I -DOLE Serves as ATM card/debit card for OFWs in OFW Ban It could also be used as a beep card for MRT/LRT services. The card can use to easily transact with government and private agencies.
    

Department of Labor and Employment Secretary Bello confirms that OEC will no longer be required for OFWs to complete the process and pass the immigration. This was revealed through his conversation with ASec Mocha Uson. He said, OEC will be abolished, because President Rodrigo Duterte signed the approval of the issuance of I-DOLE, or OFW ID. They will start producing the free OFW ID starting end of July  this year.

Instead the OFW ID or I- DOLE will replace the said document. The OFW identification card can also be used as transaction document for SSS, Philhealth and Pag-ibig members. They are also studying the options that through this, the OFW ID card would serve as electronic passport.

Lifting of the suspension for the Direct hire was announced also by the Secretary effective today.


Earlier, last February, news regarding the plan and implementation of OFW ID was announced. As promised, Duterte approved the use of OFW ID- which is meant to help OFWs in their government transactions.

Where can we use the OFW ID or I-DOLE

  • Serves as ATM card/debit card for OFWs in OFW Bank
  •   It could also be used as a beep card for MRT/LRT services.
  •  The card can use to easily transact with government and private agencies (e.g. SSS, Philhealth and Pag-Ibig transactions).
