In a video posted by iRadio Flash Report in social media, Ambassador Alonto said that the government attempted to open a consulate in the Eastern region which includes Al Khobar, Dammam, Dhahran, Al Ahsa, Jubail, and other nearby cities but unfortunately it did not materialize because the government of the host country did not allow such.
However, Alonto brought a good news to the OFWs who are located in the said region. Through the efforts of the Philippine embassy with the help of the Department of Foreign Affairs Headed By Sec. Alan Peter Cayetano, they provided a solution to the growing backlogs on passport applications. starting October 18 and every Thursday Friday and Saturday of every week thereafter until the end of the year, there will be an Embassy On Wheels to be held at Dahran.
Alonto ensured that the Philippine Embassy personnel will be assisting every concerned OFWs three days of every week until the year ends. A huge number of passport applications is anticipated to be processed during this period.
Aside from passport services, follow-up of cases handled by the assistance to nationals (ATN) will also be attended.
Alonto also said that this event will not be possible without the approval of OUMWA undersecretary Sarah Lou Y. Arriola and the support coming from DFA Secretary Alan Peter Cayetano.
There is also a possibility that this program will be extended on the following year according to the Ambassador.
