To fill up vacancies in its healthcare industry, Germany needs some 500 Filipino nurses this year. Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) Administrator Bernard Olalia confirmed the news through DZMM. Olalia said Germany don't have enough healthcare workers. Interested applicants may apply through POEA website or through accredited private recruitment agencies. Hired applicant will get a starting salary of 1, 900 euros or around P118, 266 for assistant nurses or those who have yet to pass Germany's licensure examination. On the other hand, nurses who have passed Germany's licensure exam will get a starting salary of 2, 300 euros or around P143, 165. But the application is not easy because applicants need to pass the German language proficiency test to become registered nurses. Olalia urged the public or those who are interested in working in Germany to check first the POEA's list of accredited recruitment agencies before applying to avoid scams or being a victim of illegal recruiters. Currently, around 480 Filipino nurses are working in Germany.

Just because we are earning big, we will now stop contributing to our Social Security System (SSS) membership. As Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) it is important that we should continue to pay our SSS contribution regardless of how big we are earning now. SSS brings benefits to us from loan to sickness benefits to death or even funeral.
