In case that an OFW or expatriate working in UAE met an untoward incident that causes them to lose their life while performing their duties, the UAE labor law stated that the bereaved family of the deceased will receive compensation from employer. For natural death occurred outside work duty, the employer has the responsibility to pay the family members of the deceased or the dependents, the amount equivalent to the worker's 24 months basic wage. On the other hand, if death occurred while the expat is performing his duty or if the expat contracted a disease while working [i.e. a lung cancer from inhaling harmful toxins while working in a chemical factory], their dependents or the immediate family members are entitled for the amount equivalent to the workers 24 months basic wages not lower than AED 18,000 but must not exceed AED 35,000. it must be based on the salary of the worker prior to their death. The expression “Deceased worker's Family” stated on the article's provision is defined as: -Children. -Widow/widower. -Dependents who were subsistent on the deceased worker's income. -Sons who were under the age of 18 and who were enrolled in educational institutions regularly and are under the age of 24 years and who were mentally or Physically disabled to earn for a living and who were in the deceased workers care at the time of his death. -Unmarried daughters who were in the deceased workers care at the time of his death. -The parents. -Brothers and sisters who were in the deceased workers care at the time of his death. Rajima will be flying for UAE on March 25 for the last hearing of Jennefer's case on the 27th . Jennefer's verdict, that was supposed to be released last February 27 was postponed due to the court decision to summon the 2 children of the Emirati employer to attend the hearing on March 27 where they will be asked for fifty times in the name of Allah if Dalquez is the only person who killed their father. Gina Lopez Confirmation as DENR Secretary Rejected; Who Voted For Her and Who Voted Against?

With the recommendation read by Senator Manny Pacquiao as chairman on Committee on Environment and Natural Resources, the appointment of Gina Lopez has been rejected by the Commission on appointments today, May 3, 2017.
With 13 votes opposing the confirmation, Gina Lopez has been denied to occupy the position as DENR Secretary.
Pacquiao said that the decision does not go according to his personal preference but the decision of the majority shall prevail.

Single ASEAN Visa To Boost Tourism Industry

Tourism is considered as vibrant industries in Asia. With great beaches, good food and friendly people, visitors from around the world come over and enjoy. Asian beaches are rated as the best in the world.

United Nations World Tourism Organization said that tourist arrivals in the region in 2015 reached up to more than 100 million, mostly in Thailand (29.8M), Malaysia (25.7M), and Singapore (12M).

Other Asian countries with large numbers of arrival are Indonesia (10.4M), Vietnam (7.9M), Philippines (5.3M), Cambodia (4.7M), Myanmar (4.6M), Laos (3.5M) and Brunei (218K).

ASEAN Tourism Ministers are optimistic that tourism in the region will continue to grow as they are developing linkages to the neighboring countries. With this, infrastructure projects are needed. For example, Thailand is developing their maritime tourism with possible links with Bangkok and Boracay in the Philippines.

Aside from infrastructure, ASEAN Tourism Leaders is eyeing for a single Visa to be used by foreigners to all ASEAN countries instead of obtaining ten different Visas when traveling.Similar to the Schengen Visa of Europe, they wish that the proposal will be approved sooner. It will take the time to be implemented because it involves countries with different foreign policies.

These steps to connect tourism industries of the ASEAN countries will benefit the region and promote tourism that will benefit not only ASEAN economy but it would also improve the lives of their citizens.

Excessive Work Has Adverse Effects To Your Health

Overtime is good if you are looking for an extra penny on your pay slip and in your pocket but, it can only ruin our health if we do it excessively. Being workaholic has a downside and our health is at stake.

Philippine Statistics Authority said that in 2015 there are 8.1 million Filipinos who experienced excessive working hours that is about 48 hours per week. Working more than 8 hours per day deprive us of other activities, or worse even the time we should spend in sleeping is often shortened due to working overtime.

The human body needs at least 8 hours of sleep to function normally. During sleep, our body organs repair itself after a day of tiring activities. Abnormal or non-regular sleeping pattern and sleep deprivation may lead to various ailments. Sleep deprivation can lead to higher risk of chronic health problems like high blood pressure, heart disease, and stroke.

According to Harvard Medical School studies, sleeping less than five hours a night increases the risk of death from all causes by about 15 percent. Sleep deprivation is dangerous to your mental and physical health and can lower your quality of life dramatically.

When we talk about overworking, the Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) especially those who are working as household service workers know the situation by heart. The problem is that they do not have the choice but to do it for the sake of their family.

For the OFWs, overtime work is gold because it means extra money for the family.
They somehow adapt and get used to it eventually but the effect on our health becomes more evident as we do it. They have to deal with it because they have no choice.
It doesn't mean that you just get on abusing yourself, but if you can say no to overtime work, then do it. You are doing yourself and your loved ones a great favor.
