OFW Shares Struggles During Ramadan

Arabs are usually generous during the holy month of Ramadan, a month-long prayer and fasting This are the times they are giving "Hadiya" or gift as goodwill to their workers or anyone. When I was working in Kuwait, there were times that a random person will give kinds of stuff like food or money to the street sweepers during Ramadan. The working hours are also shorter than usual allowing more rest time for the workers in companies.

OFW Rosemarie Silapan, in a social media post which later taken down, shows a photo of a situation of household workers consuming the excess food of their employers. Due to an issue saying that Silapan grabbed the post from another person, she removed it from her social media wall and posted another photo which reflects the same situation. In the said photo, after the break of the fasting, while their sponsor finished their meal, the household workers scavenge on the leftovers. It is their only chance of getting full. According to Silapan, they were not given adequate food by their employer.

Royal Pardon Granted To 25 OFWs In Qatar

 25 overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) has been granted royal pardon by the Emir of Qatar during the month-long observance of Ramadan.
Without disclosing their identities, Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III disclosed that most of the pardoned workers were imprisoned for various cases such as bouncing checks as well as drugs and adultery cases.

According to the latest study, the state of Qatar is among the top destination countries of OFWs in the Middle East, next to Saudi Arabia and Kuwait. Bello ordered all labor attaches assigned to various Philippine Overseas Labor Office (POLO) to conduct an inventory of jailed OFWs, particularly those awaiting executions so that the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) and its attach agencies could come out with a better and speedy assistance program to distressed OFWs and their families. Bello said he has also instructed the POLOs to provide the OFWs, both documented and undocumented, the necessary on-site assistance and services to help their dependents. “Whether the OFW is regular, documented or irregular, undocumented, he or she will be provided with free legal services and in-country assistance, such as the preparation of supporting documentation.” There are 27 Filipino workers who are facing the death penalty in Saudi Arabia, reports said. Saudi King Orders Early Payment Of This Month's Salaries on June 18!

Considered to be a good news this Ramadan to all workers in Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Salaries of workers in the Kingdom for this month will be paid this June 18, 2017 (Ramadan 23, 1438H). The payment will be half month advance. Advance payment of salaries aims to meet the need of citizens for their needs for Eid Al-Fitr.




Considered to be a good news this Ramadan to all workers in Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

Salaries of workers in the Kingdom for this month will be paid this June 18, 2017 (Ramadan 23, 1438H). The payment will be half month advance.

Advance payment of salaries aims to meet the need of citizens for their needs for Eid Al-Fitr.



Ramadan salaries are scheduled to be paid on Shawwal 2, 1438H or in the last week of June 2017.

The good news is based on the directives of King Salman, Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques and is reported to Saudi Press Agency (SPA) on Sunday night.


With this, the Ministry of Finance said, that it will issue directives to the Saudi Arabian Monetary Agency (SAMA) to authorize the bank to deposit the salaries in the employees' bank account on June 18.

However, it is not clear if the directive applies also to the private sector.

Citizens of Saudi Arabia hails the directive of the King and describes it as an early gift.

Now that Ramadan is almost at hand, we would like to remind all OFWs who are in Muslim countries to be very cautious and be reminded of what to do and not what to do during the holy month of Ramadan. All muslims practice fasting during the month of Ramadan. It is considered holy and compulsory to be observe by the adults. As guest to the muslim country where I am now, It is but proper and courteous for OFWs to obey the culture on each muslim host country during fasting month. What is Sawm (Fasting)? The Arabic word for fasting is called "sawm" in the Quran. The word sawm literally means "to abstain".According to Shariyah, the word sawm means to abstain from all those things that are forbidden during fasting from the break of dawn to the sunset, and to do this with the intention of fasting. Who should fast? Fasting in the month of Ramadan is obligatory upon every adult Muslim, male or female, who has reached puberty, is sane and who is not sick or traveling. Who should not fast? 1. Insane or mentally challenge person. 2. Children who are not adolescent yet. 3. The elderly and chronically ill people. 4. Pregnant and lacatating mother. 5. Women during the period of menstruation.

Kahapon, August 21 ay araw ng assasination ni Ninoy Aquino. Nakakalungkot gunitain, pero its like a celebration of the great life he lived, and the reason that he died is for us to enjoy the freedom we now live with.

Sana the life story of him and his wife will serve as a lesson for generations to come that there are people willing to die for Filipino's...and said that its worth it.

I dearly hold him as my hero, unang una dahil kabirthday ko, at pangalawa dahil through him, I learned to fight back and face even insurmountable and giant detractors basta we believe that what we are doing is right and true.

RAMADAN KAREEM!

Ramadan na sa Muslim world. Ibig sabihin walang kainan sa daanan, sarado ang mga tindahan, mabagal ang lahat ng processing ng mga papeles kung ano man, at higit sa lahat babagal ang kilos ng lahat, maliban na lang sa mga sasakyan sa daan na ang lulupit sa tulin dahil gutom nga mga drivers.

Pero on the other hand, mura na ang mga bilihin, nagkalat ang sales at 50% discount.
