Bureau Of Immigration Now Uses Biometrics In International Airports In Ph

As the number of travellers expected to rise this holiday season, the Bureau of Immigration (BI) started the implementation of biometrics in Philippine international airports including Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA). According to BI Commissioner Jaime Morente, the biometric system is a part of BI modernization in determining and preventing entry of undesirable aliens in the country. Morente said that BI is already implementing a new software called Border Control Information System (BCIS) that will process all international passengers that are coming to and from the Philippines. Aside from speedy immigration counter process, the new system can also be used in identifying undesirable foreigners. Sponsored Links BCIS uses camera and finger scan device which results to automatically compare the actual image to the image that appears to the passport and the BI database which determine if the person has any negative records in the bureau. BI port operations division chief Marc Red Marinas said that the BCIS is also connected to the databases of the Interpol and the australian immigration department. “With this system the use of fraudulent travel documents and disguising one’s physical appearance will soon become inutile,” said Marinas. The BCIS pilot testing has been made to provincial international airports particularly in Mactan-Cebu, Clark, Kalibo, Davao and Laoag. Biometrics system has already been installed as early as 3 years ago. Source: Interaksyon Advertisement Read More: ©2017 THOUGHTSKOTO

Taiwan Will Allow Visa-free Entry For Filipinos

Taiwan will allow visa-free entry for visitors from the Philippines in hopes that the country will reciprocate the gesture, a spokesman for the self-ruled island's cabinet said on Thursday. Taiwan does not have formal diplomatic relations with the Philippines, which recognizes the "one China" policy under which Manila acknowledges the Chinese position that there is only one China and Taiwan is part of it. China considers Taiwan a renegade province to be taken back by force, if necessary. Whether the visa-free policy takes effect in October or November is to be decided by the foreign ministry, said Hsu Kong-yung, the spokesman of Taiwan's executive yuan, or cabinet. "After we open up the visa-free arrangements, in view of equal mutual benefits, we also hope they will make visa-free arrangements with Taiwan," he told a news conference. Taiwan's visa-free policy for the Philippines was earlier announced to begin in June this year, but was later postponed. The tourism project is part of a plan, known as Vision 2030.

According to Vision 20130 fund, the Red Sea development will be built along 125 miles of western coastline of Saudi.

Attraction that foreigners will look up are the following

  • protected coral reefs
  • dormant volcanoes
  • natural reserves inhabited by rare wildlife like Arabian leopards and falcons.
Visitors will also be able to take trips to the ancient ruins of Madain Saleh, classified as a Unesco World Heritage site, and take part in activities such as parachuting, trekking, and rock climbing.

Single ASEAN Visa To Boost Tourism Industry

Tourism is considered as vibrant industries in Asia. With great beaches, good food and friendly people, visitors from around the world come over and enjoy. Asian beaches are rated as the best in the world. United Nations World Tourism Organization said that tourist arrivals in the region in 2015 reached up to more than 100 million, mostly in Thailand (29.8M), Malaysia (25.7M), and Singapore (12M). Other Asian countries with large numbers of arrival are Indonesia (10.4M), Vietnam (7.9M), Philippines (5.3M), Cambodia (4.7M), Myanmar (4.6M), Laos (3.5M) and Brunei (218K). ASEAN Tourism Ministers are optimistic that tourism in the region will continue to grow as they are developing linkages to the neighboring countries. With this, infrastructure projects are needed. For example, Thailand is developing their maritime tourism with possible links with Bangkok and Boracay in the Philippines. Aside from infrastructure, ASEAN Tourism Leaders is eyeing for a single Visa to be used by foreigners to all ASEAN countries instead of obtaining ten different Visas when traveling.Similar to the Schengen Visa of Europe, they wish that the proposal will be approved sooner. It will take the time to be implemented because it involves countries with different foreign policies. These steps to connect tourism industries of the ASEAN countries will benefit the region and promote tourism that will benefit not only ASEAN economy but it would also improve the lives of their citizens. Filipinos to Benefit 5 Days Visa-Free Entry to South Korea starting May 2017

Filipinos to Benefit 5 Days Visa-Free Entry to South Korea starting May 2017

Filipinos to Benefit 5 Days Visa-Free Entry to South Korea starting May 2017

This good news is confirmed by Rhee Kangil, chief marketing manager of Jeju Tourism Organization (JTO).

The five-days visa-free access is also open to Indonesian and Vietnamese to explore the land of Hallyu and kimchi. This rule applies to Chinese tourist too, but the JTO is now eyeing visitors from Southeast Asian nations.

"The Korean government, they [authorities] have allowed Filipinos, Vietnamese, Indonesians to come to Korea using package tours," Rhee said, adding that the policy will be implemented in May.

(Temple on Jeju Island, South Korea)

"The [visa-free] system [being offered] is when tourists using a package come to Korea and if there's Jeju [island] on the itinerary. It only applies to package tours but there has to be designated travel agencies. It cannot be any travel agency selling Korean packages," Rhee explained.

According to Philippine Ambassador to Korea Raul Hernandez, the Philippines is included in the plan of the Korean government to issue electronic visas and allow a visa-free stay in mainland Korea for five days in order to boost its tourism industry.

Currently, if you are a holder of a Philippine passport, you may enter Jeju-island visa free but must obtain a visa if traveling to mainland Korea.

There are no direct flights to Jeju but Philippine Airlines has chartered flights, via Rakso Travel.

But Hernandez clarified that only selected tour agencies are included in the program.

Korea’s Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (MCST) said it “It is true that at the moment, the Philippines, Vietnam, and Indonesia among the Southeast Asian countries are being considered to be included in the electronic visa program.”

Under the electronic visa program, the MCST said, “group tourists will not have to go to the Korean Embassy to get a visa if your country is eligible for an electronic visa since it can be issued through the accredited travel agency.”
