The DFA now has "OFW Help" Facebook Page giving distressed OFWs a new avenue to get in touch with the government regarding their plea for help and immediate assistance.
It is under the DFA-Office of the Undersecretary for Migrant Workers' Affairs (OUMWA). Its goal is to render assistance to the undocumented or OFWs who are not members of
the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) who need immediate help.

"It aims to provide a more preferable system in receiving request for assistance from the next-of-kin of OFWs and OUMWA case officers. Especially if the client is unable to contact the OUMWA hotline or travel to the nearest Post," according to its profile.
OUMWA is the prime office mandated to handle cases of the OFWs appealed y their relatives in the Philippines or the OFWs themselves.
The requests are then referred to the Philippine Embassy or consulates of the host country where the OFWs is located. They are the ones who communicate with with the employer and other concerned agencies which can provide assistance to the OFWs in distress.
